Requirements |
Applicants must be at least 21
years of age at the time of
testing.
Persons age 45 or older are not
eligible to test with the Plano
Police Department.
Applicants must have a Bachelors
Degree from an accredited
college or university by hire
date; or earned at least 60
college semester hours from an
accredited institution by hire
date in addition to three (3)
years active military service or
two (2) years full-time paid
sworn law enforcement
experience.
Applicants must be United States
citizens.
Applicants must be free from
disease or physical/mental
defects that would prevent the
individual from performing the
essential duties of a police
officer.
Applicants must meet all legal
requirements for future
licensing and certification as
required by the Texas Commission
on Law Enforcement Officers
Standards and Education (TCLEOSE).
Applicants eyesight must be
correctable to 20/30 in each
eye, with appropriate color
vision.
Applicants must have normal
hearing.
Persons who have been convicted
of a felony or a Class A
Misdemeanor are not eligible to
be licensed by the Texas
Commission on Law Enforcement
and are therefore not eligible
to test for a police recruit
position with the Plano Police
Department. Persons who have
been convicted of a Class B
Misdemeanor are not eligible to
test with the Plano Police
Department for ten (10) years
from the date of conviction.
Applicants cannot be on
probation for any offense on the
date of the Civil Service test.
Applicants must possess a valid
driver's license and cannot have
more than three events (moving
violations or at-fault
accidents) in the preceding 36
months from the date of the
Civil Service test. Applicants
cannot have a DWI/DUID, or
reckless driving conviction in
the preceding ten (10) years
from the date of the Civil
Service test. |

The City of Plano invites you to
apply as a Plano police officer.
The Plano Police Department is a
nationally accredited law
enforcement agency with strong
community relationship values.
Historically, Plano achieves one
of the lowest crime rates for
Texas cities with population
over 100,000. In 2006, Money
Magazine ranked Plano number
eleven in the nation of the top
100 best places to live.
Policepay.net ranks Plano as the
ninth highest police pay in the
nation when adjusting for the
cost of living. After 36 months
of service, a Plano officer
earns an annual salary of more
than $66,000.

Plano police officers are hired
from an eligibility roster
consisting of individuals who
have successfully passed a
police recruit civil service
entrance examination. The next
exam will occur on Saturday,
October 20, 2007 at 8:00 AM at
Plano West Senior High School
(5601 West Parker Road in
Plano).
You must pre-register to take
the exam.
A registration form and
instructions are available at
www.planopolice.org. To be
eligible to take the exam, a
properly completed registration
form must be received by the
Civil Service Test Administrator
before 5:00 PM on Thursday,
September 27, 2007. Follow the
instructions. An admission slip
will be mailed to you. The
admission slip allows you
entrance to the exam site. |
