Requirements |
High school diploma or G.E.D
certificate, twenty-one years of
age, and have a valid Washington
State driver's license at the
time of appointment. Must be a
United States citizen, and be
able to read and write the
English language as required by
RCW 41.14.100. Must be willing
to submit to and pass a
background investigation,
polygraph examination, a
psychological examination, and a
medical examination; AND MEET
ALL OF THE FOLLOWING
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Have a current Washington
State Criminal Justice Training
Commission Corrections Officer
Academy Certificate, or have an
equivalent certification from
another state-approved
corrections officer academy; and
2. Have successfully completed
the testing process and have
been hired by another
jurisdiction from a Civil
Service Commission certified
eligibility list or other like
process; and
3. Have been continuously
employed by your present or
previous employer as a
full-time, paid, civilian
corrections officer for at least
12 months; and
4. Have successfully completed a
probationary period with your
current or previous employer;
and
5. Can obtain the Washington
State Criminal Justice Training
Commission's equivalency
certification within the first
12 months of employment; and,
6. Pass the Physical Agility
Test.
EXAMINATION PROCESS: The written
examination will consist of a
Thurston County Civil Service
application and supplemental
questionnaire which must be
completed and returned. These
will then be graded and you will
be placed on a ranked register
according to your score. You
will be notified by mail of your
position on the register.
SUBMIT your (1) completed and
signed application, (2) the
supplemental questionnaire, (3)
a copy of your basic academy
course curriculum(out of WA
state only), (4) your academy
certificate, (5) proof of
citizenship (copy of birth
certificate, passport, or DD
214), (6) proof of education
(copy of HS diploma, degree, or
college attendance record), (7)
DD-214, if claiming Veteran's
preference to:

Description |
|
Provides care and custody of
prisoners in the Thurston County
Corrections Division of the
Sheriff's Office. Processes
inmates into the facility.
Receives, inspects, and
distributes all items which come
into the facility. Supervises
inmates' work details. Maintains
discipline and order.
Corrections Officers are
sometimes subjected to both
physical and psychological
danger. They are expected to
handle a variety of potentially
volatile and dangerous
situations in a calm, confident,
effective, and professional
manner |
