Requirements |
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of the work
requirements of general labor
and unskilled field work
including occupational hazards,
physical demands, and
appropriate safety requirements.
- Knowledge of Washington State
Motor Vehicles Laws; and
geographical layout of the City
of Olympia.
- Knowledge of proper operation
and safe use of common hand and
power tools.
- Skill in directing the work of
others to accomplish assigned
tasks.
- Skill in gaining the
cooperation of assigned
misdemeanant workers to
accomplish tasks in a timely,
efficient manner.
- Skill in communicating City
policies and procedures to
citizens in a courteous and
consistent manner.
PROBATION WORK CREW LEADER
- Skill in defusing
confrontational and potentially
physically threatening
situations. Ability to
effectively communicate through
written documents, in-person and
on the telephone.
- Ability to recognize hazardous
material/situations and respond
according to training and City
policies and procedures.
- Ability to perform the work of
the probation work crews and
train new crewmembers.
- Ability to interact with a
variety of individuals from all
walks of life, in various states
of emotion and distress.
- Ability to function as a
member of a service-oriented
team. - Ability to cooperatively
work with various public and
private agencies.
- Ability to treat all
individuals with respect and
courtesy, regardless of
ethnicity, culture,
life-experiences and/or
background.
- Ability to accurately and
efficiently maintain records and
documentation related to the
work crew.
- Demonstrated punctual, regular
and reliable attendance is
required. Education/Experience:
Demonstrated experience
providing in-person oversight of
work crews or groups required.
Education, training, or
experience in administrative
processes and procedures
desired. Education, training, or
experience in criminal justice,
security, social work, or a
related field desired. Special
Requirements: Successful
completion of the Corrections
Officer Academy sponsored by the
Washington State Criminal
Justice Training Commission is
required within six months of
employment. Possession of a
Valid Washington State Driver's
License or equivalent mobility
and the- Ability to drive a 12
passenger van is required.
Qualification in First Aid and
CPR and successful completion of
a criminal background check are
conditions of employment. YOU
MUST BE WILLING TO WORK
WEEK-ENDS. |

Description |
|
Responsible to solicit, plan,
implement and evaluate
appropriate service projects and
work sites. Must be able to
coordinate projects with other
City departments, public and
non-profit agencies. Must be
able to train, motivate and
supervise a work crew of up to
10 offenders at various job
sites. Maintain surveillance of
crewmembers to insure security
of crew and maintain maximum
community protection. Insure
work site and equipment safety
by inspecting sites and
testing/inspecting equipment.
Determine tools, equipment and
methods required for
accomplishing project within a
specified time. Perform minor
equipment maintenance and
repair. Responsible for
investigating, evaluating and
reporting any inappropriate
behavior of crew members to
appropriate probation staff.
Recommend disciplinary action
when necessary. Maintain
detailed records of work
crewmember's participation,
project status and equipment
condition. Assist in developing
and updating standards and
expectations for work crew
functions. Schedule and
coordinate work crew vehicle
maintenance. Maintain working
relationships with various
agencies, law enforcement and
city officials. Perform other
duties as assigned. Punctual,
regular and reliable attendance
is essential for successful job
performance. |
