Discovering A Missing Person - Procedure?

    Hi everyone,

I have two questions pertaining to discovering a missing person:

    1. I have a scene where a deputy comes across a person who was presumed missing out in the woods. What is the procedure for that? Would the deputy transport the person back to the station, or would there be a call for backup?

    2. It's discovered that the missing person was not lost, but actually kidnapped. The kidnapper is still out there. Would the responding deputy stay on the case or would the case go higher up, like to an investigator?

    Thanks!

If the person says they were kidnapped and the kidnapper is still out there, the deputy would call for back up. A search would then start for the bad guy once everyone was in place. The victim would be given a ride back, but not right away, probably.

A lot depends on the size of the department. The deputy may stay in charge, but probably an arriving supervisor or commander will take charge of the search. Once the bad guy is found it may stay with the deputy or be handed over to a detective or criminal investigator.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine
