    police jurisdiction on private property

In the residential area where I live, we have a problem with speeders and reckless drivers on the road in front of my house. This is a dirt road that that is not level and not straight. This is an area that has children and pets in the daylight hours. Last night about 11:45 pm, teenagers came barreling down the road and went to the house across the street. I know it probably wasn't the right way to handle it, but I went and stood outside because sometimes just this is enough to slow them down. I think because I was watching, they backed up at an accelerated speed, peeled out and swerved (almost hitting my truck, and sped up the road. There is a 5 mph sign posted on this road. I called it in and when an officer called me back, he said that his dilemna was that it was private property (we have a landlord) and there was nothing that he could do unless there was an accident. Any advice on what I can do? Would videotaping them help? If the property owner gives the police permission, do they then have jurisdiction? Thank you in advance to anyone that responds.

Unless the sign is posted by the Dept of Transportation, and its public access (ie a parking lot), than the police can't do much for violations. Now if he was reckless, and a criminal or traffic misdemeanor can be articulated, than maybe something can be done, but again that will depend on the law, and department policy. What about having speed bumps installed on the road every 20-30 feet?

I mean, we're getting killed for these people and they don't even appreciate it. They think it's a big joke.
