They've changed things up a bit. New name, new look. It seems as if they're trying to step away from the "Street Racing" theme, and are becoming more active and participatory in the SCCA sanctioned events.Originally Posted by B'ham FAL

Working stationary one Saturday morning, little traffic on a divided 4 lane highway. Tone goes off for 55mph vehicle, I look up and see the traffic court judge passing me......I wave, he returns the wave. As I am putting my hand down, the radar goes off with an ungodly squeal....105 mph.......woohoooo the chase is on. Square body Caprice is after a Mustang 5.0............took about 1 1/2 to 2 miles to catch him. Idiot just bought the car and was "trying" it out..........risked going to jail and losing his CDL. I wrote him for speeding only.....and not reckless(thats a helluva break for him). Told him (laughing at same time) he may want to pre-pay the ticket.....because the one car he did pass was the judge that would hear the case. On court date, there was a substitute judge on the bench.....idiot plead not guilty....was found guilty with a healthy fine, judge said I should have locked him up.
I highly doubt this. It would take alot of power (700whp+), the proper gearing, serious suspension work, the car would have to be gutted, have a fiberglass shell with the proper aerodynamics, etc.Originally Posted by cntryboy0531
Many years back, going over to see my girlfriend (who is now my wife) got on the freeway and as I'm entering this white CV whips by me with two young kids in it. Now, I'm not so stupid that I don't know that LEO's use CV's, but this one was filled with what looked to be 2 teens or early 20's guys, and had out of state plates. So, I'm in my new Mustang Cobra and I punch it, thinking race is on. We head through a great turn from one freeway onto another, then there's a semi in my lane and dude is still right next to me in the left. I drop two gears, floor it, get in front of him just shy of the truck and pass the truck. This guy is right on me, so I figure as soon as I pass the truck, race is over -- besides, I've got to get off at the next exit and I've got to get slowed down. Past the truck I get into the right lane thinking the kids will whip past gloating about how they beat a Cobra in their daddy's car. Instead, the CV gets right in behind me and on come the grill lights and the brights start blinking.
I pull over thinking that this out-of-state cop is going to pull me over, finally glancing at my speedo and it's coming down through 125. Get stopped on the side of the road and put my window down to hear "Get your hands on the steering wheel!" Did as I was told, still not too worried, until up comes the guy, in khakis and a hawaiin shirt, with his badge hanging around his neck. I see, with the most horrific sinking feeling, that he is a Deputy Sheriff of THAT COUNTY! Give him the paperwork, answer MANY questions about what I did and what my Commanding Officer would think if I got arrested for Reckless (he would NOT have been happy...), get the papers back and he walks away with a very stern verbal, no ticket issued.
During this time I noticed another car stopped on the other side of the freeway up a bit. When the Deputy and his partner pulled away, that car followed. And wouldn't you know it, they were going almost the same place as me? I ended up having to follow them (at the posted speed limit mind you) almost to my girlfriends house. I think they may have been going to some kind of undercover bust.
I wonder how hard they laughed about that later...

P.S. I have DEFINITELY matured since then and drive much more sane now, especially since I have a family and a 13 year old daughter!

One night, as an ignorant 17 year old, I was on a two lane highway and I had the needle buried past 130mph with my ratty old 1980 primer black Camaro. I had five close friends with me. The car felt as if it was going to rattle itself apart. It was still accelerating, when I finally chickened out and slowed it down. Then the very next morning as I was pulling out of my driveway, the driver’s side outer tie rod broke loose. What a wake up call that was! Needless to say I never did crazy stuff like that ever again. Then one week later, the rear leaf springs rotted through the floor and the car was junked.
The fastest I was ever stopped for was 75mph in a 30mph in the same car when I was 16. I punched it as I pulled out of a 7 Eleven. I watched a pair of headlights in my rearview mirror get smaller and smaller. Then they got closer and closer. Then suddenly they began flashing. “Uh-oh:eek: ” I thought to myself. When the Officer returned to my car after getting my license, he asked me why I got going so fast. I replied “I was just testing out my new Holley carburetor.” He said “Seems to be working just fine.” as he handed me my ticket for 20 over. At least I caught a break.![]()
for me, highest was 96/65, but was written as 94 :(.
Needless to say, i got a yelling at, a lawyer, and a fat court cost + attorney fee cost, made me learn my lesson (got it eventually dismissed though, <3 volunteering in the past and dd course).
I concur. The fastest i've ever seen officially documented was in the 180's by a motorcycle.Originally Posted by slocar
Got stopped on I95 in Northern VA for going 94/55 State Trooper let me off with a warning.
No more then two weeks later I got stopped for 97/35 at 3:30am on the George Washington Parkway in all honesty I believe I was going much faster possibly over 105/35. Saw the officer and stopped he didnt even have to move on me I stopped right infront of his cruser. Didnt take me to jail and court fine was $500.
Two days later in the Washington Post a 350Z was caught going 126mph on the GW Parkway law student was arrested and spent 12 days in jail and was fined $1,000+
And Finally while on I-95S took the mustang to 135/65 passed a State Trooper.... saw his tail lights light up (brakes) saw his reverse lights and him start to turnout and then saw him put it back in park.. took the next exit parked my car in my friends garage and stayed at her place for the night...
Needless to say because of career/money/family/friends/desire to keep car I have slowed down a whole lot. I learned my lesson and it was a hard one....

Highest I was ever written for was 96 in a 65 on the Ohio Turnpike. OHP got me on laser and had a huge grin when he told me how he loved writing people tickets when they had radar detectors...ah well...
Back to VASP - I was pulled one morning on I95 somewhere south of the Beltway for 82 in a 60. Young trooper, couldn't have been much older than me at the time (22) in an unmarked Impala (and I mean unmarked... no outside anteanne, no LEDs in the back window, nothing.) came flying up on me and then proceded to tell me I needed a CDL to drive my truck. (2005 F450 Dynamic Wrecker unloaded, LOL) Needless to say, I was as polite as I could be, and I tried hard as heck not to laugh when I informed him that I'd never heard of that before. As it was, he wrote me the full 82/60 Reckless (as is the standard in VA for 20+ or anything above 80mph) and then let me go on my merry way.
So back to the original question... How the heck can someone get off for a 94/55??? I swear, I had the worst luck sometimes when I was younger.

Not my fastest BUT my fastest Greyhound bus. 76/55...he was rollin!!!!
He was decent so I wrote him for 74/55 so it wouldn't be as many points and not be reckless driving.
Yep I'm working my way up to Trooper status. :D
