    Texas LEO Jobs

For a guy just coming out of the Marines. What is his best bet in getting his foot in the door for becoming a Cop?

Apply with Texas DPS and use my name so I can get the $2000 recruiting stipend they are paying! PM more questions if you like.

    Steve-

Do you have to work there to get the stipend? Because if not, he should use MY name.

    Good one Citicop!

We currently have 360 Trooper vacancies. The Colonel just came up with this $2000 stipend for recruiting someone. It's hard to recruit someone and tell them they will work EVERY holiday the rest of their career with DPS and always work a rotating shift of nights and days while in uniform (no exceptions).

We only pay incentives for college or language certifications. Anything else you do (SWAT, Crash Reconstruction, Riot Squad, DRE, SFST Instructor, Driving Instructor, FTO and the list goes on.............) does not pay any extra.

But I can't think of a better place I would rather be. I love what I do for Texas. When they say DPS is not for everyone they speak the truth.

I don't know if they would pay another person from outside our agency. They just started a academy about two weeks ago with 75 recruits and are already down to 50 something recruits with 18 weeks to go!

You know, the funny thing about DPS. A guy I work with has always wanted to be a trooper. He has been with us for 5 years and he applied with DPS about 4 months ago. He is the kinda guy I think of when I think of a Trooper (he just fits the mold). He speaks Spanish and is in great physical condition but he didn't get in, even all the Troopers around my area were surprised he didn't get hired. He is going to reapply as soon as he can.

I put in for DPS for the academy that is going on now and my BI told me I was looking very good in the process. Finished background was recommended by everyone up until the Major. The major (it appears) went back and did his own background investigation as he did not sign off on my paperwork and the things he mentioned for the reasons my BI has no idea where they came from and are either things I had no control over or things that were simply not true. The polygrapher used a phrase during the polygraph and somehow it got misconstrued that I had said it, and the Major said this phrase was not a phrase professional Troopers would use, although I didn't say it. Also was told that I disrespected two high ranking Troopers, who I have no idea who or what they are talking about as I have never met an Austin Trooper nor have I disrespected any Trooper.
