I am wanting to know if the requirements for being a police officer is like in North Carolina. In North Carolina you go through a community college law enforcement training class. In Tennessee do you do this or how do you get certified.

I'm not sure what you are asking. If you are referring to actual training that an officer has to go through, there are several academies in TN. The larger law enforcement agencies such as Metro Nashville PD, Memphis PD, Chattanooga PD, and Knoxville PD have their own police academies. Most other agencies send their officers to the TN Law Enforcement Training Academy (TLETA) located in Nashville, TN.
The Peace Officers Standard & Training (POST) Commission and/or state law sets the standard to what one must do to be qualified as an officer. Most applicants who get hired by a police department are paid to go to the academy. One can also go through the police academy through school, but it is very costly. You must pay school tuition plus academy tuition, plus money to cover all other expenses while you live 10 weeks at the academy. I believe those colleges that have agreements with the police academy also require that the student be a junior or senior before they can apply.
