    Moving to Tennessee

I'm looking at moving to the Nashville or Knoxville area. Are jobs really as tight as they look up there right now? I just saw a article about 170 state employees being laid off. I'm starting to get sick of the crime and other BS down here in Central FL.

I know there is a hiring freeze at the state level. Knoxville and Knox Co. are always hiring, as is Chattanooga. Good luck on the move, bring cold weather clothing.

I came from farther North and looked at the temp ratings, It shouldn't be too bad. Hopefully things start to improve I'm shooting for mid march to may of 2009 when my lease is up down here.

    Thanks for the info.

Metro Nashville PD is still hiring and I believe there are other LE agencies in the area that have posted. Murfreesboro PD (20 min SE of Nashville) will be hiring a ton within the next 18 months and Franklin PD will also be hiring. If you are interested in LE, I think you have good chances with prior LE experience.

Not too hard to get into at all with the right attitude (and background). Here is the link for Murfreesboro PD

They are a good agency and hiring a lot right now.

If I remember correctly from my last trip to Dollywood, doesn't TN have something like 11% sales tax, but no personal income tax?

A 9.75% sales tax. Yes it sucks, but one who was to buy a 20 - yr old house in Florida for $350k to $400k with 1800 sq feet could get a new 3000 sq ft house in one of the nicer neighborhoods in Nashville.

Does your state have local sales taxes, because I'm fairly certain I paid 11% on something in Sevier County... so I'm wondering if I should watch the sales girl next trip. ;)
