    Police Sergeant's duty

Im a graduate student, getting my masters in criminology and i have a project which instructs me to ask a police sergeant or first line supervisor to rank in order of importance the function of the supervisor as listed in the RESPECT approach to supervision.

R-reporting- review reports and record observations
E-evaluation & inspection of line officers, job performance and equipment
S-services-maintain quality of delivery of services to citizens
    P-planning-plan activities, also enforce policy
E-ethics-maintain moral code and enforce it
C-control- control the use of time and materials efficiently
T- teaching- train and teach line officers for meeting objectives

    your help is greatly appreciated

You might want to drop by your local police station and ask them.
It would be easier then, to verify that your source is in the 'correct' position to be answering the questions for your assignment, since the assignment specifies a certain rank to ask.

I would suspect that you would need to include the name , rank and department of the person that you interviewed. I also suspect that you will have a hard time getting all of that info while on a public website.

I could answer your questions but you would have to list your source as anonymous.

If you order them differently then it wouldn't spell "respect" any more.

Is there such a thing as the "eecsptr" approach to supervision?

This coming from someone who's last post was questioning whether or not you could "beat" a polygraph. How did that go for you?

I would assert that the primary job of a supervisor is to look after the wellfare of his people and make sure they have the things they need to do their job. You may have authority, but they grant you the power. Make sure they have what they need, be it your experience, a word of advice, 2 hours at the end for their kids baseball game, or occassionally a little boot to the a$$.

Well, with one post and no activity for the past 9 months, I suspect their assignment is complete...

    But, that's just me. :D
