If it does indeed shutdown, does that mean we won't be sending financial aid to other countries?

They say it will only be for a weekend (I believe)
Didnt your parents go out of town for the weekend on occasion? I wonder what sort of impact a weekend might pose to the rest of the world.
Maybe this means that our state run liquor stores will be closed as well... Hmmmmm... REJOICE!
Call me stupid but a pending government shutdown? What is that about?
I don't usually read the news unless it's a specific topic I am following/interested in. Politics usually doesn't fit this category.

No FY 2011 budget has been approved so we've been under multiple continuing resolutions passed by Congress (many lasting 2 weeks before they have to do another one), the one we're currently under ends tomorrow.
I'm OCONUS (outside the US) right now and as I understand it if the aid to a foreign country is considered operationally necessary (ex: Navy providing humanitarian aid to a country it's deployed to) it's going to be funded. This would really be a question for someone within the State Department (which I am not) to answer, as they're the ones most involved in aid/diplomacy with foreign nations.

My new hero!
I think both parties are doing nothing to keep the government open. By letting the government shut down both sides can say they did everything they could to keep their sacred cows from being cut even letting the government shut. They had to relent only for the good of the country, because the evil Dems/GOP would not be reasonable and it was better for the nation as a whole if they gave in more than they wanted so the government could get back to work.
I see it as no different than the contract negotiations between the unions and the big three auto makers here. Every time there is a new contract the union strikes. It's almost as if the unions believe the companies will be holding out if they don't strike.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security.
Translation for the intellectually challenged: If the government screws the people too much, it is the right and duty of the people to revolt and form a new government.

A weekend or a week it's all the same it's sad when this government would rather fund 388 million yes MILLION dollars worth of abortions then to pay the men and women that risk their lives to defend that right/option, I'm not saying not to have the option available for abortion ( even though I don't personally agree with it) but I do believe that should be a service that the pregnant woman should pay for not the federal funding..this would cut back a lot of money....I have a better idea for a budget cost bring home our troops and the ones that are calling the shots or not making the deal be the ones to stand and fight againist our allies to be the ones protecting our borders from Illegal aliens... I could go on but I will spare you![]()

Non-essential” federal workers face the prospect of going without pay during the impasse. Representative Jim Moran, a Virginia Democrat, is advising federal workers living in his district just outside Washington to conserve cash, warning a shutdown could stretch into next week. With so much concern over the budget deficit, he said yesterday, lawmakers may not agree to provide federal workers with back pay as they have in the past.
Many government programs would continue during a shutdown, said Jeff Zients, deputy director of the White House budget office.
Social Security checks will continue to flow, the postal service will deliver the mail, military operations in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya will go on and the air traffic control system will operate, Zients said yesterday.
Soldiers, law enforcement officials and others whose jobs are deemed essential would continue to work, yet wouldn’t get paychecks until the budget impasse is resolved.
The main people that need to get paid the most ....if this goes on long I see ALOT of people going A-Wol and I don't blame them...what a slap in the face to the people of this country...for their service...I say cut congress pay..

Ya, it mainly affects the office types but those of us "essential" workers that still have to come to work may not get paid for some of our work until later on. Plus they cancel all vacations and such and if you call in sick or want to still take your vacation you can do it, you just don't get paid vacation time for it. It's not the first time it's happened and it won't last long but the politicians we have care less and less about the people that actually MAKE America and make America great and care more about their own power and money and crap. Our political system is crap and needs a serious re-work!
I agree with you 100% but even a crappy government is better then no government at all...I can't say too much b/c I do not vote only b/c I think they all lie. and steal... my views are more Christian world view type stuff... I believe that it don't matter if we had a president bathed in gold what will be will be...it's just sad that they don't appreciate the people protecting our safety and defending our freedom more then they do...ITS REDICULOUS....how can you concure a budget when we are maxed beyond our limit.....I think it's going to get NUTS before it will * NEVER* get better... JMT...
I'm really surprised it did'nt hit healthcare salaries before the military... healthcare salary has to be beyond the millions...you have one RN making 30$ an hour a Doctor making 60$ an hr... that adds up...with that being said I would rather them sacrifice my pay then the military and Leo...they are just shooting themselves in the foot, yeah this has happened before but our economy was not in this pit fall that it's in now...
