Glenn Beck's Restoring Honor Rally: 8.28.2010

Just out of curiosity, is anybody going to the Restoring Honor Rally in D.C. tomorrow? I signed up for it through my university, but since my name was put on a waiting list ultimately I won't know if I'm going until later tonight.

I'm far too lazy to post the information regarding the rally here, so for more info visit: Restoring Honor - 8.28.10

PS: Just kidding about the laziness...sort of.

Hey Pathos, I live so close to DC that I go downtown on a regular basis just for fun, usually to go to one of the Smithsonian Museums, and love to go watch protestors on just about any issue. There is nothing more entertaining. If it's ANY rally that's being held against a liberal rally, I usually love to go join in, LOL, or watch for entertainment. I was there for all the Tea Party rallies, though I just join in because I'm a fiscal conservative. In fact the first one I accidentally ran into as I was heading to watch a planetarium show in the Air and Space Museum. Unfortunately I won't be there tomorrow, though, as I will be busy through Monday.

Just FYI, you don't have to worry about signing up through your college. You can just show up - like I normally do. If you are near a metro, there are lots of metro stops to get off at (Smithsonian for example). Google the DC metro and plan from there.

I actually received an email yesterday evening stating that I had a seat, so I got to go. I really don't know my way around the area, and my GPS is utter garbage, so I decided to go with LU's buses. Either way, we actually DID get on a metro bus and stopped at Smithsonian...from there, we walked to the Washington Monument/Kennedy Center. Our chancellor was standing near Glenn Beck, and my university's "Sounds of Liberty" group performed at the end (according to a friend of mine, one of the girls in the group lives on my hall).

The rally was really amazing...I didn't get to hear all the speakers since the buses arrived shortly after 10 AM, and it was a long way to walk. But I remember a relative of MLK spoke, and it was all very encouraging. There were protestors, of course, but they were essentially ignored. A few people did sort of chuckle at their signs because they were fairly ludicrous...i.e., a bunch of college students were holding signs that stated "Glenn Beck Is a Terrorist" near the entrance to the metro. Because, you know, Glenn Beck's attempt to unify the country is clearly comparable to the 9/11 terrorist attacks...

Also, I almost jumped into a debate with this one very logical young man (only 20-years-old!) who was standing up for his belief in Christianity (via microphone, so it was sort of formal). There were two men heckling/"debating" him, but all of their arguments largely consisted of ad hominem and red herring fallacies. Several times, I almost spoke up, but I really didn't want to stay there for long. The guy did a good job of handling it, regardless.

But that's enough blabbing for me. :D I at least need to take a nap before I crash at my computer. All in all, it was an amazing event, and I'd love to be a part of something like it again someday!

Glad you had a good time, PathosLogos.
We need more young folks like you.
When I first started to watch Glenn Beck I felt he bordered the boundaries of fear mongering.

I have since grown to admire many of his thoughts, and now religiously watch his show.

Glad you got to go Pathos.

I was trying to go, but between work schedules and home duties I wasn't able to. My 912 Group had around 150 people going.

I did manage to DVR most of it off of CSPAN.... nearly the only thing I've ever found that network to be of any use. Watched it late Saturday night and was disappointed that my recorder shut off as the pipes were playing Amazing Grace. When the DVR stopped, the timing was near perfect and I watched the very finale on their re-play. I heard Glenn say they raised 5.5 Million and still counting for the Special Operations Warriors Fund.

I was glad to see Marcus Latrell introduced. I've read his book Amazon.com: Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10 (9780316067591): Marcus Luttrell, Patrick Robinson: Books and it gave me a newfound respect for what these ment go thru both in Training and on a mission

I've been a Beck fan for awhile, especially since he moved over to Fox. His "Founders Fridays" shows are absolutely amazing as far as our history goes and tying our past into our present and how Theology played into our entire founding. He encourages everyone listening to do their own research and not just take his word for it.

Trip, the Tea Parties will be marching again on 9/12, just FYI.

I'll be there. I lost friends in the Pentagon on 9/11 so I get especially pissed around that date.

Or tens of thousands if you ask HuffPo. But yes, the only people holding political signs were the protesters. But that's not exactly surprising.

I started watching Glenn Beck sometime after he moved to FOX News, and I was immediately hooked. I personally enjoy his tongue-in-cheek wit coupled with his passion for speaking the bold truth. As much as the lamestream media wants to label him as a fearmonger and an extremist, I think his sincerity clearly shows.

I haven't been able to watch a show since I got to VA (there is Hulu, but I hate the delay--it's old news by the time I see it!), but I brought some of his books with me...I've been attempting to finish them in my spare time, but I'm finding that even that's difficult. In any case, once I heard the event announced, I jumped at the opportunity. The entire message--turning back to God and uniting in Him--was astounding.

I've noticed that since the media realized that the rally lacked any political motivation, they are attempting to attack Glenn Beck's credibility as a "spiritual leader." It's almost amusing to watch, since they're basing their arguments on a false premise (i.e., that Glenn even claimed to be a spiritual leader in the first place). I spoke to one liberal friend who was curious as to how the events were, as she heard that riots were predicted to have broken out. I basically laid out the whole event for her, and she was surprised to see how much "misinformation" (coining the liberal politician term) she retained. But, I digress.

Aww, I'm not there. :( I WAS, however, caught on film at one point...I was standing along the fence on the right side of the Washington Monument (that is, if you're facing it). A camera crew--I'm not sure whose--was walking outside of the fences along the sidelines, filming people. If I recall correctly, there was a Gadsden flag on the camera...so again, I'm not sure who the camera crew was.

But then again, the camera lens probably shattered after having filmed my ugly mug. I had to be on the bus by 5 AM and didn't have time for a shower. Yuck.

His Monday show showed some things that CSPAN didn't, and I think CSPAN must have started late. They had been interviewing Ralph Reed and taking phone calls from the ignorant media-fed masses. I didn't see the opening "Flyover" nor the National Anthem sung. I heard that it was Jodee Masina(sp?) who I wouldn't have known, but would have liked to have heard that.

Maybe this website would help until you can watch Becks live show: The Daily Beck- Watch The Glenn Beck Show- August 30, 2010: 8/28- How The Media Missed The Message

That camera may have been a crew from the Tea Party Network... God knows there is plenty of us different Partiers around.
