You can make your own sign. There is a guy down the road who nicely painted (no spray paint) a white sheet with a Bush slogan and hung it on his 8 ft fence. I suppose it irritated the hell outta his nighbor across the road with a teeny Kerry sign. Size does matter.

Well there is a program and I am sure I could use a sheet but i am kind of anal about my property. While I am very proud to do so I work VERY hard on my yard and property to hang a " cough , cough " white trash flag in the front yard.

Bloody hell now I'm on a guilt trip :D

Big letters don't usually offend me - big words can sometimes confuse me but that's another issue.

A retort would be good - at least we could bounce it around for a few posts

I'll be voting, but right now I'm still undecided on whether I want to vote for a president at all. I'm not happy with Bush or Kerry, and I'm not either one is worthy of my vote.

For those who asked what has John Kerry done and some of the votes and issues, the Startribune. www.startribune.com has been working on articles for both candidates. This weeks articles are on John Kerry. (you can log in using this username and password if you don't want to register. User: cypherpunk Password: cypherpunk)

If your interested take a look. Just as a FYI the Startribune has been known to take more of a conservative look over our other paper the Pioneer Press.

If the Nicaraguan government wished to base any forces on its soil then isn't that it's sovereign right? What authority does any other country have to stop a sovereign government doing so?

President Reagan supported the people who wanted to be free and boot the Russians out of their country and any decent American stood beside him. Kerry on the other hand chose to join those who wanted to interfere with that process just to try to embarrass and emasculate President Reagan in front of the world. That's what the Boland Amendments were all about--trying the hands of our President AFTER he'd publicly pledged help and support to that oppressed people just to cause him to lose face (and hopefully the next election.)
What happened was that the Reagan Administration sold arms secretly to Iran which was warrring with Iraq. The proceeds were directed to the Contras which were attempting to overthrow a democratically elected government.
Of course this was also a breach of US law.

Meanwhile, in Nicaragua, people who just wanted to be free and have a say in the running of their own country died.
Guerilla war will always result in deaths - on all sides and of innocent non-combatants. Whether they are Left or Right doesn't matter, guerilla warfare does this. In this case the insurgents were Rightists, elements of the previous Somoza dictatorship who were trying to get rid of a democratically elected government.

The Contras and their supporters eventually won the day, in large part to Reagan and people like Lt.Col.Oliver North, and today they elect their own leaders, have a free fress, and celebrate the gift of freedom that was bought and paid for in part by America.
Nicaragua elected Ortega as President in 1984. The Sandinistas lost the election of 1990 - note they lost the election. They didn't stay there and shoot the opposition. Nor did they mount an insurgency as did the previous Somoza regime, to try and overthrow the democratically elected government. There is now an effective constitutional democracy in place in Nicaragua and good luck to them - they now have more parties than New Orleans on Fat Tuesday

Wouldnt that be because of President Reagan and Americas policy at the time?

Reagan didn't want a democratically elected government, he wanted a puppet government sympathetic to the US. That's why the secret funding for the Contras was necessary. The Contras wanted to overthrow the democratically elected government and since it was illegal for the US to fund them it had to be done covertly.

The reason that there is still a democratically elected government in Nicaragua is due to Ortega and the Sandinistas.
