In a socialist or command economy, just as it is in a capitalist or mixed economy, there will be a higher economic value placed on some job roles over others. The differences may not be as huge as they are in some capitalist economies but the differences are there.
The parable, sorry to say, is not applicable to real life, it is, however, useful propaganda for the status quo to remain the status quo. Whatever you do, don't think for yourself, the ruling class hates you when you do that.
I agree with your point. The problem is that those who advocate a socialist or communist economy use equality of outcome as the motivator. Read the Communist Manifesto, you'll see that the whole idea was to take from the wealthy and give to the poor to equalize everyone's socio-economic standing. It is great on paper, but in the real world it does not work at all.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security.
Translation for the intellectually challenged: If the government screws the people too much, it is the right and duty of the people to revolt and form a new government.
