I have a few questions

So I'm not sure if this has been asked before and I apologize if it has. I have been looking into going to Rio Hondo Police Academy in hopes that it will better my chances of being accepted into the LAPD. I am also looking into the Los Angeles Sheriff's Volunteers on Patrol Program which I hope will help me learn a lot more about law enforcement.
My questions, do you think its worth it to do that? I like the idea of going to Rio Hondo but I would rather hear everyones opinions first. Also, does joining the LASD Volunteers on Patrol sound like a good idea as well?

I'm not from CA, but I thought that everyone hired by LAPD had to go through their academy.

If so, then I would not pay to send myself through an academy to better my chances to attend a SECOND academy.

If having the academy will allow you to get hired and not attend again, it might be worth it, though... someone from CA will be on shortly with better info, I'm sure.

Is LAPD accepting POST certificates from outside (non-LAPD) academies?

Learning more about LE as an LASD volunteer is going to be hit and miss. Some volunteers do a bunch of stuff and some volunteers do very little. IIRC, volunteers are station specific - call a particular station and ask what their volunteers typically do...

I did some research and I dont think the LAPD is accepting from outside academies. Gotta go through their academy which I will gladly do.
I'll call the different stations tomorrow and ask around. The Volunteers on Patrol seems like a good program but I definitely have a few things to ask.
