Both statements do not mean you are: a) qualified for the position; b) have what it takes to do the job; or c) should even be considered for the job.

If you were willing to do what it takes, you would not have stopped when injured. If you were willing to do what it takes, you would not have lied and failed to disclose your prior injury. If you were willing to do what it takes, you would have told the instructor you are not leaving and they would have to carry your dead body out. If you were willing to do what it takes, you would not have packed your bags and left.

I don't care you never crossed the finish line first. I think there are two types of people....those who will cross the line and those who quit. I realize I am in one group and you are in the other. That is OK. What I have a problem with, and every future employer will, is the Giglio issue you created for yourself. You lied when you failed to disclose. And every arrest you make that goes to court, the agency has the obligation to disclose to the defense any misconduct or issues of officer reliability. That means your agency will tell every defense attorney you lied on official paperwork and when discovered, you resigned. Every defense attorney will rip you to shreds and your credibility on the stand is a big fat zero. And since you can't testify, you can't make arrests. You can't make arrests....you can't be a cop.

What we want in life is not what we always get. I want a mansion on the Hudson....and am doing everything I legally can to attain that dream. The reality is it will never happen. While a certain generation of folks have raised their kids thinking they can get anything they want, or that you can be forgiven for every mistake you made, that is not how society works.

There is no advice for how to prepare yoruself again. I don't thik they will let you in, and if tehy did, even if you passed, no agency is going to hire you with a Giglio issue. Time for plan/career B. You may disagree, but you asked for an opinion, and you got one from a guy who worked Aplicant Processing with the NYPD and sits on the hiring panel now.
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.

PD's spend a LOT of time and money to hire people. Then they spend more to put them through the academy. You knowingly and intentionally LIED to get in. You risked injury to yourself and potentially others. You placed the instructors in peril as they thought that they were trying to push a " lightweight" through when in fact , you have a back injury that prevented you from properly being able to be trained.

You wasted a LOT of departmental time and money due to your fraudulent enlistment.

I can't imagine that ANY Law Enforcement Agency would gamble on you a second time.

    Please consider another career path.

I don't think there is any magic advice that will make round two any easier... If you are going back to the same place, same staff, etc, plan on being treated exactly the same as round one. I am guessing there is not going to be a point where their opinion of you changes, so plan on smoke sessions continuing for the duration.

You have to do some serious soul searching and find that nugget buried inside (if it is there) to carry you through. No one else can find it for you.
If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile-driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack!

    Do Over, I Wasn't Ready!

Ispbear said to you- You used your back injury as an excuse for poor performance. You did not come back at him at all. The only thing you said is, you don't want sassy remarks but would like to get a book to read to help you do better next time.
After you admittedly lied about a past injury. I can't see how or why they would give you another chance. I never heard of this crap.
Grow up. Stop looking for excuses and look for another career where somebody doesn't have to rely on you to save their life. You may have another excuse why you couldn't do it. You had your opportunity that hundreds of people on this forum are dying to get. You blew it move on.

I paid myself for admission to the academy as a ' self sponsor' so i didn't " blew it' nor did i put any agency in a bad position or light. I only let myself down. If you were talking about being sponsored and in the academy then thats a different story. I however respectfully disagree with your statement.

    I Tried

I am not talking about money or sponsors. Did you really let yourself down or did you know right from the beginning that you were not going to go through with this? You always had the past injury excuse in your back pocket to use.

Sounds like you were doing it for someone else and you didn't want to let them down. In your mind you now can say -Hey, I tried, they were picking on me plus I had that back injury. I tried. Again Move on. Don't give up on life just be honest and get a job you will be happy with. Law Enforcement is not it.

Truth be told i didn't use it as a excuse form the start. I knew it was going to be harder for me if it did become an issue for me. I even told the TO i didn't think it would be an issue and i didn't want to be Handicapped because of it, he seemed understanding on that note. Told me to get physical therapy and try again when i'm ready. So did i not fully disclose it when i should have? Yes i did not. Did i think my old injury would start to slow me down ? No. I also didn't have an expectation of being paid for my time at the academy, i did it for myself as a career and as a personal challenge. I think had i not been smoked constantly, and strained i would have been able to perform better. I had it worse than most of the recruits. Before me it was another guy, then another recruit then they got to me. 48 hours of continuous smoking, and i was mentally pushed and physically harder than I've ever gone before. It must look terrible from someone who has gone through the academy and made it successfully, and as a Police officer to read this. And until i make into that Elite circle of being a Police Officer, i'm just another expendable recruit.

On another note, i will have to do soul searching. Right i feel disappointed and like a piece of trash tossed aside.

Coming from a military perspective, we used "smoking" as a tool to weed out the mentally weak, and to modify behavior in accordance with operant conditioning principles. We would allow candidates to reapply for our organization and / or schools if they dropped out due to injury, however, we would NEVER allow a candidate to return if they quit.

Not EVERY individual has the temperament or physical ability to fulfill EVERY duty/job they desire. There is NOTHING wrong with that, and there are numerous positions an individual can fill that are beneficial to society.

Look into pursuing your goal of being an EMT imo. That is also a very honorable profession, and they serve an important role in our society.

    Good luck.
