Well, many of these questions of yours will vary from academy to academy. It would help a great deal if you were more specific with which academies you are concerned. There is an academy near me where the recruits commute there daily and live at home, with weekends off. The main academy, downstate, has them living there Mon-Fri. If you go to my academy, you live there (in Georgia) for the duration, having weekends and holidays off. Other academies will "own you" from start to finish.
Now, generally speaking, no one really cares about what you studied in college. They will teach you everything you need to learn and you will attend the same classes as a guy who majored in basket-weaving. By no means are these courses as challenging as most college course with which I am familiar. However, they are also not as simple as most military courses that I have been through.

in practice, there is."

an eggs-and-ham breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig
was'committed'."
