Wanted to chime in on this one as I 'settled' early in my carreer.
I always wanted to be a Texas Trooper, but there was always an excuse to do something else (i.e. more money, location..etc). I went to two different departments, and found what I already knew. I liked traffic, wrecks and happenings on a State level. So years later, here I am applying for Texas DPS.
My point - for what its worth - If your heart is set on FHP, don't settle. Political and economical peaks and valleys come and go. Stay focused on the goal and DON'T COMPROMISE! You are applying because it is a style of policing that is in the blood. I salute all officers, but SHP is just my cup of tea.
Good luck to you and stay motivated!
For me, before there was the Thin Blue Line, there was the Blood Stripe! Semper Fi!
Our fear reminds us that we are not God, our faith reminds us that He is!
**DISCLAIMER** I'm not a current LEO, but have six years experience with two city PD's in NC and TX as a sworn officer. I'm in the process of returning to LEO work ASAP.
