    EVOC Training

Trying to find a school that teaches certified EVOC training for students other then comissioned LEO's/EMS's.
I am a PI w/ former Mil experience, currently getting my cert's in order & updated for 'exceptional entry' standards for several local depts.
1 requirment that keeps coming up is 40hr EVOC Cert.
The one thing I cannot find so far, is this training offered to anyone other then already employed EMS/LEO's..anyone know of a school or dept that currently offers this?? Granted, cost is on me, I'd just be happy to find a school..
    Any leads appreciated. TIA,

If they're still around, you can try Executive Security International. From what little I know,I believe they do a defensive driving course. But that school is into executive protection/bodyguard stuff so it might not be exactly what you are looking for.
Lead me not into temptation.......someone talks me into enough sh!t as it is. .

i've never heard of an EVOC class being offered for civilians. we offer free 24 hour cert. classes, but you must be a P.O. how does an agency require you to have a class prior to being employed? that doesn't make sense.

I don't know if being with an agency is a requirement, but you can check with Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads (TARS). They are online, but I can't remember the link. Check on google. They teach a 40 hr EVOC class.

Thanks Guys, I did look at ESI, and a few others, they offer Evasive Driving courses, but I believe I am going to need actual EVOC cert & recognized as such., which is similar but not the same to some offered in the civilian arena.
P01IC3M4N, Exceptional Entry is for prior LEO's that have been unemployed as a LEO for 12 or more months prior to app, reserve officers seeking direct employment, or persons like myself who come in with the required pre-existing certs, I guess this is how they can require certain certs or quals that you cannot obtain eaily elsewhere if your not with a dept or academy, if that makes sense.
After Sept. I will have everything I need to go direct EE, except this EVOC training which is proving somewhat elusive..

Did you try to ask the potential dept you are looking at if you can go to one of the classes they send their people to even if you have to eat the cost ?

Alameda and Contra Costa County Sheriff's Training Centers (in CA) offer several EVOC courses, including an 8 hour one for civilians. That might be a bit far for you to come, but I believe Washington recognizes Ca. POST certificates. Seems to me that any local agency or community college which puts on a Police Acedemy and allows self sponsored cadets to go through EVOC would be able to put you through the course for a fee, self sponsored cadets aren't peace officers either.

I could be wrong, but I don't think you will be able to use certs from anyone other than a L/E EVOC curriculum. We used to run Reserve Academies here I'll ask the Chief when (and if) I see him. Definitely contact WSP and ask them if they will recognize the training program as they are the ones who have the final say-so regarding initial cert/qualification.

Every LEO in the state goes through their course at the Academy in Shelton. We do some classroom work in Burien and then head to Shelton for a week of driving and a little more classroom time. I would strongly encourage you to speak to the training folks with WSP and with the SO you're looking at before you spend any money. And I can't see PCSO letting someone not going through the Academy coming in and taking one portion of training. Who knows though...I've been wrong many times before.

if that's the case, why can't you call a college and work something out with them? surely if that's what you need, they'd probably offer it during their police academy and might be able to stick you in with the academy class.

    DWF,
Your correct, not all certs within any 1 subject are viewed as acceptable, I have been very careful so far to be sure what I am getting certified on, is LE approved & accepted. PCSO does not have an "Exceptional Entry" as far as I know, this is to prep me for a few other depts that do, should PCS not pick me up, although things look real good so far...I'm just getting a backup plan in place, plus the additional training will never hurt.
The police EVOC seems to be hardest to aquire a real police 40hr DOT cert on without being sponsored by a dept, but I will be trying to find out if I can piggy back in on an existing course at the local college that does the reserve program training & I'll try the state patrol as well.
I was able to locate several 8hr courses provided by a few LE depts, which would be better then nothing going in & may put me in contact with some one willing to slide me in to a 40hr course without too much trouble, if I pick up the bill, which is no problem...all I can do is try!
Thanks again for all the help to everyone, I have alot of leads to follow up on, I'll keep you posted!

Why not join up with an AutoX (SCCA SOLO II RACING) group? It's probably not the best idea if you don't drive the best car, but if you are a car enthuisast it's a blast to take your car to the track. It usually doesn't cost much and is an excellent way to learn.

Code8-w, thanks for the tip, but I am in need of something known as POST Cert. EVOC, which an autox group/class/etc cannot provide, its a LEO/EMS thing for the most part. thanks though.

FYI...San Bernardino county Sheriff's training acamedy offers evoc training to civilians. When I went through it, it cost me $380.00 that was 6 years ago. Good Luck!
