    OC Sprayed yesterday

I've been so busy lately with the academy that haven't been here in months, but I had to come back to say one thing... OC SPRAY SUCKS!

Took a large blast right in the face yesterday and to be honest, I'd rather be beaten with an asp before getting sprayed again. Tell you what though, it'll definitely be a bit of a confidence booster when I hit the street knowing that if it comes down to it I can spray a guy's face with the fires of hell!

Taser is in about a week...

Glad you liked the OC spray so much, lol. When I was getting sprayed I opened my mouth to breath and got a big dose of OC spray in the back of my mouth!

Sucks worse when you're OC'ed in the field, by a coworker spraying a suspect who is right next to you.

Could be worse. His aim might be that good with all sorts of different gear. Luckily he started with OC and it worked.
Imagine his Use of force report
"while out in the field with my partner and the resisting suspect grappling on the ground with my partner I deployed my taser and accidentally struck my partner which left him incapacitated for the duration of the shock. I then transitioned to baton and while trying to strike the prone subject in the legs, the tip extended beyond the suspects legs and accidentally stuck my partner multiple times in the groin as lay prone next to the subjects legs still incapacitated from the taser. The impact broke the baton and I transitioned to OC spray which hit both my partner and subject in the face, arms and legs with mulitple bursts. At this point the subject started blindly fumbling around my partner and I saw him reach for my partners service weapon. Fearing for my partners life, I fired two round with one round hitting the suspect and the other round apparently ricocheting and wounding my partner in the leg. I applied quick-klot and a compression bandage over the heavily OC covered wound which EMS reported saved his life. While he was yelling unintelligble words he kept reaching for his weapon everytime I came near him which I presumed he wanted me to relieve him of it before transport by EMS which I secured and inventoried. While trying to remove the spent taser cartridge for ttransport with my partner as the EMS people wanted hospital staff to to remove the barbs as the were located in an area that was covered in OC spray and welts, I accidentally delivered another jolt as he laid on the gurney. NFI."

    and later after your recovery:
"For third time this week, Officer Kimble spark tested his taser while accidentally leaving the cartridge in it. All 3 times, the barbs were lodged into his partner."

lol, I hope none of that was from experience...

I could imagine it going something like, "after deploying OC the subject continued to resiststating, "he eats taco's spicier than this", at which time I deployed my taser. Upon impact, the sparks from the barbs ignited the alcohol based spray, engulfing the subject and my partner in flames..."

That made me laugh, because the first time I got sprayed was in the field by an old chief of police that apparently thought he was using a can of spray paint.
Excuse me Officer, I have a stupid Question. "No problem, I've got a stupid answer for you!"

    I thought I was the only one...LOL

I will say over the years I have lost faith in OC, it can be affective When used properly, but usually its not used properly and has little affect on the bad guys and more affect on the good guys.

Nowadays I just go "hands on". At least I know what my hands can and can not do affectively!

Don't get me started again with the "training in less lethal against DOGS thread". I am very upset I can not find one person willing to give a class on it.....LOL

I get to take part in this time honored tradition of getting OC sprayed next Weds. Its the day after our PPCT testing, I think its the instructors demented way of congratulating us for getting through defense tactics. LOL. I'm not really looking forward to it, but I'll be happy when its over.

I don't know why but that's the way it always goes. I can't count the times I've been hit with 'friendly fire' (OC and MACE, back in the day) while fighting someone I've dumped to the ground. Once I took a shot directly in the ear, WTF?

Ok, now I got the taser yesterday. Drive stun hurt but the probes from about 5 feet away were awful. It felt like a jackhammer was digging into my femurs... I held it together pretty well though, most of my classmates can't say the same, lots of screaming. lol

I understand being sprayed and having to keep fighting a bad guy but why do you need to be tased just to know what it feels like?? what about being chased down and bit by a big powerfull police dog just to know what it feels like to be bleeding from bite wounds

Just a guess but I'd bet most K9 officers know what it's like to be bitten by their dog. I'm not a LEO but I know there are some departments that don't allow their officers to be tasered because of fear of injury (mostly fall injuries or back injuries as I understand it). Other agencies believe tasing the officer makes taser testimony and use of force testimony more believable if the officer can explain the effects of his use of force to the jury (namely, he knew exactly how much it would hurt and that the level of force applied was necessary for the situation). It's probably also helpful in a civil case if the officer can say they were tasered with no ill effects and hundreds of other officers had no ill effects. As a non-LEO I would think it would more credible to hear an officer that has been tased explain his UOF than someone who has not. The tased officer can offer empathy while justifying his action.

They told me I had to be shot before I could carry a gun. Was that wrong? Did I get shot for nothing?
