Any officer's worst nightmare, shootout with police

I actually played this video in one of our roll calls for officers. This is an eye opener to say the least.

So, in watching the squad car ram the suspect car, I imagine that falls under some sort of department policy in authorizing the officer to use whatever force necessary to disarm the suspect?

Just curious if the office would have been in trouble after taking that action.

I would say it fell under "weapon of opportunity" in a deadly force situation.

    No.

Deadly force is deadly force. If an officer is authorized to use deadly force, it does not matter which weapon you use, be it a firearm or an cruiser. It all accomplishes the same thing, stopping the threat.

The first thing I thought of was "ram that car!!"...it was a perfect opportunity to hopefully get the jackass, and it did.

    Great job guys!

Wow. This brings home all our Explorer advisor told us about felony stops. Safety is #1, you can't rush a stop, or somebody will get hurt.

I'm confused though, at the last part, did they mean to hit the car, or were they just going too fast? I ask, because they didn't swerve at all, or take any evasive action to avoid crashing.

I don't know, but if I was in their position, seeing the guy about to get out, I'd just do whatever it takes to kill him so that he couldn't kill me.

    Great training video!

But typical Murphys Law...perp treats his car like craps and slams on brakes, a police vehicle with bumper bars hits it, perps car flies up in air lands, and the cop cars dies, and teh perp drives away in his car.

    Great work!

That is one pathetic excuse for a human being. Great call by the officer to ram the car as the driver was about to get out and start shooting again. 11 life sentences? Awesome. Good thing no good guys were killed.
