Dallas County Sheriff fails state TCLEOSE licensing exam

Valdez plans to retake test within three weeks, spokesman says

    From Staff Reports

Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez has failed a state law-enforcement licensing test, officials said Wednesday.

Sheriff's Department spokesman Sgt. Don Peritz said the sheriff has until Dec. 31 to retake and pass the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education [TCLEOSE] test.

Sheriff Valdez scored a 66 on the exam last month, he said. A score of 70 is required to pass.

Sgt. Peritz said the sheriff plans to take the test again within the next three weeks.

Sheriff Valdez, a Democrat, was elected to the post in 2004. She is the first [openly gay] woman ever elected sheriff of Dallas County.

(not that being a gay female minority Democrat had anything to do with her TCLEOSE failure, but it probably had something to do with her getting elected in the first place - But of course the Sheriff before her had a few scandals going, so she's still an improvement over what we had)
