Cops grab ladder to save 4 from fire
Employing nothing more than a ladder and their courage, four patrol cops rescued a pregnant woman and her family from a burning Queens apartment yesterday, police said.
The officers - Dominick Trotta, Vincent Monte, Suzanne Guidice and Katrina Peacock, all assigned to the 109th Precinct in Flushing - were driving on 25th Ave. in Whitestone at 8 a.m. when they spotted smoke billowing out a second-floor window at 25-65 Parsons Blvd., police said.
Unable to get into the two-story brick house through the front door, the officers found a ladder at the building's rear and used it to climb through a second-floor window.
The officers were able to get all four frightened people down the ladder and safely to the ground, police said.
Vaiya Fotion, 26, who is pregnant, and her 6-year-old son, Harry, were hospitalized for treatment of smoke inhalation. Gus Fotion, 27, and Aliki Karahalios, 29, received medical attention at the scene.
Guidice also was taken to the hospital, with a hand injury, police said
