An Albuquerque police officer was arraigned today on charges of raping, kidnapping or beating at least 11 motorists, including a teenage girl, but his attorney says he is a victim of mistaken identity.
Patrolman Christopher Chase appeared before state District Judge Rebecca Sitterly to answer the 32 charges on which he was indicted June 26 that involve traffic stops from September 2001 to Jan. 18.
Prosecutors say one of Chase's victims was a teenage girl who on Jan. 13 was sexually molested, fondled and battered as others, including at least one other minor, were held captive in the car, the indictment alleges.
