pretty crazy to me.
It obviously could have been handled better...but sometimes having to swallow your pride will do that to you.
That is Dayton for ya LOL..... (I work the next county over)
Just a note, Dayton Ohio PD has tons of internal problems. Also that incident was in 1998.
Its hard for me to understand how someone can talk to an officer that way (especially a minor), and on top of that get 60,000!??!
Geesh!
I will go on the record as saying that any of you may spray me as many times as you want, provided that I get 60K per burst.
Deal?
And yes, the girl was a little mouthy. I liked the part about the police putting her brother in prison. Obviously she does not understand the whole police/arrest vs. court/convict thing. Oh well. I'd say she got quite an education.
But can you imagine how many complaints you would get if you used the OC or better yet, the taser on every surly fast food employee?

Hey the spray is a food based product!! hehe
I wonder if she cusses the cops anymore.

He gave her an order and she refused it. Seems to me she got what was coming. All she had to do was comply and it would have been worked out. Without the extreme discomfort.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what was he going to charge her with?
I must have missed that as well. The Manager checked the register and there wasn't a $20 in it.....and the camera showed that she put the bill in the $10 section of the drawer.Originally Posted by jarobins
Agreed she should have listened to the Officer but not sure if he had valid P/C to take her out and question her or whatever he was intending to do with her...

Probably. She obviously has an attitude problem and she got 60 grand out of it. What's a little OC in the face when you cuss a cop out, get sprayed, and get that much money?Originally Posted by txinvestigator1
Here's my uneducated opinion of the situation:
The cop was clearly a little confused about the money, but say this had been a regular customer that thought they got short changed. If they had called the cops, the same thing might have happened. They may have wanted to take her out and talk to her, and if she resisted, same result.
The manager coming in to "check" the drawer was completely useless to me. Sure, he says there aren't any 20's in there. But HE didn't see if she shoved it in her pocket or elsewhere to stash it until later. Apparently no one bothered to review the video until later, so the fact that he checked the drawer and surmised that she was innocent was pointless.
As far as what he planned on arresting her for, last I checked it's not ok to short change someone and/or steal money. Since he was acting under the impression that she HAD stolen the extra $10, technically she did commit theft. Not knowing the laws in that state, being a minor she might have just been taken to the car, cuffed, and had her parents called.
He must've felt a TON of satisfaction spraying her after listening to her run her mouth. Apparently attitudes run in the family. I wonder what her brother did to land in prison (assuming the cops didn't just randomly select him  ).
