I love doing a yelp/phaser/air horn combo to get these driver's attentions.
Yup, thats just like me (Whelen) but I have actually confused people by doing that lol.

I assure you that this has a pronounced effect, especially in an urban area.

It's funny as hell, when people pic up the radio mic thinking that was the PA and yell into it. I've heard some pretty good ones...

We have the Code-3 something or other

    Wail/Yelp/Hi-Lo/Hyper-Yelp

Side note on the hyper-yelp. We didn't even know we had that option until one day I was driving code 3 for a while and my thumb hit the on/off button for the cruise control. For some reason our mechanic decided to wire this so when you're code 3, and on wail, you can hit the on/off button for the cruise control and you'll cycle through all of your sirens including our new found hyper-yelp.
Be advised, I'm mean nasty and tired. I eat concertina wire and piss napalm and I could put a round through a fleas *** at 300 yards. So why don't you hump somebody else's leg mutt-face before I push yours in.

Yours used to do that when you hit the horn. It sure make people start looking for ya.
How come your house has wheels and your car doesn't?

We don't have those anymore, we just yelp and wail :(

    We use the Touchmaster series,
and you can scroll through the siren tones via PRESSING THE HORN while your code three, you automatically start on Wail, hell WHO DOESNT LOVE THE AIRHORN BABY YEAH!

Our department teaches methodized cycling as well. Long wail on straights, yelp approaching intersections, pierce while driving through them, all the while using the air horn in the intersections (actuated by hitting the horn pad on the steering wheel).

It seems to work just fine. I have no interest in trying to vary or "play" the tones as some do. I worry abut other things, so I get into a routine so I don't even think about it.
