Zylon

I have read heaps of previous posts about the problems with the "Zylon" fabric in second chance vests.

Does this problem extend to other brands of vest because I have noticed that Galls and safariland vests also contain ZYLON but I noticed that these vests have not been withdrawn from the market like the Second Chance vests have.

Any ideas.

I heard it was the material itself. I personally have no opinion on it though; a bullet is a bullet, if the perp actually does something right for once in his life, and double taps you/ finishes you off vests won't help. hehe but seriously I heard it was the material itself. I also heard it could be prevented by keeping it dry. A little bit more maintence then other older vests, but with improved gear comes improved problems right

If i'm thinking of the right vest...was the problem with the lamination?

I think that SC had done some sort of special lamination that messed up the material.

I heard, through the grapevine, that Zylon itself is OK. BUT, Second Chance didn't do enough research and development concerning its properties when saturated.

So, Second Chance vests are a problem if you sweat or get it wet etc.

If the Zylon vest is manufactured properly - no problems.

i spoke with a rep from second chance a while back when this whole thing started. they told me that it was a problem with the zylon, not the vest from second chance. now, with that in mind, it could be that second chance is just trying to cover their *** but who knows. sidenote, i just got the performance pack upgrade for my zylon vest from second chance, WHAT A CROCK! anyway, thought i would vent that.
