    Surefire 6-P with a $7 upgrade-GREAT

    I've had a streamlight stinger for years (before becoming a LEO) but didn't use it very often. The battery went kaputs just around the time I was getting ready for work. I've had a surefire 6-P but was never happy with the battery life. I found a 7$ upgrade for the light, and it is a drop in unit with higher lumens and much longer battery life. It's got a different style bulb and now throws a "blueish" colored light but it's much brighter. I get a lot more people squinting while on my traffic stops as well. The light seems to have a little bit better throw but still has a good spot on it, I can still see as far if not further.

    I used to go through the batteries almost every hour and a half but now my battery life kicked up to around 12 hours. The drop in unit has already paid for itself with the price of these CR-123 batteries. I bought a bulk amount on ebay, and was a little bit skeptical at first but they're fine. I got them for around $1.00 a bulb and is the best price I've found so far.

    I'm familiar with quite a few drop in units - just wondering which one in particular you have (e.g. which brand/model LED, output lumen/K color, reflector/optic, modes, input voltage, etc). Have you thought about switching to rechargeable lithium ions?

    My email was throwing a fit last night so I couldn't post the link.

    I'm amazed even after working all night it's still kicking hard! With the batteries I have in the light now, my halogen bulb will light bright for a second and then dim to nothing...

    For the second week now I've been using this CREE upgrade, and its still as bright as the halogen and it's not dimming at all.

    I just bought 60 batteries on ebay for 60$, maybe I should have only bought 20...

    Hard to beat DealExtreme for price. :p I've ordered a bunch of different stuff from them before - sometimes they DO screw up on the order though (they've come through in the end but sometimes it will take some time and effort to make sure everything ends up right). :( But I don't buy anything super expensive there so it doesn't hurt too bad... Actually, I don't know if there even IS anything "super expensive" there... lol

    Whatever you do, stay away from Candlepowerforums. Next thing you know, you'll be boring out your 6P body to accept 18650 lithium ion batteries, buying extenders to fit more batteries, buying a clicky switch, and paying boocoo (how the heck do you spell that word anyway) bucks for all sorts of upgrades, modifications, alternative drop in modules, ultra clear lenses, additional lights, etc... It's a disease I tell you!

    Nice thing about DX is that you can experiment and try out different things for relatively cheap - e.g. next module, try a Q5 or R2 LED... ;)

    You had to go off popping at the mouth about these other 6-P drop ins... I thought they only had the one that I bought. I did some research and found that five mode drop in with low, medium, high, strobe, and SOS...
