    Cuff/Magazine pouch combo

NCSHP has an apparently unique handcuff/magazine case where there is a double magazine pouch with a set of handcuffs held behind the magazines and up against the officer's duty belt, kind of like a sandwich with the handcuffs in the middle.

I've Googled my head off and can't find anything remotely similar to this unique, and very space-savingly-efficient cuff/magazine combo holder.

Here's a link to a picture of some NCSHP troopers. The First Sergeant's magazine holder actually has a set of handcuffs immediately behind them and up against his body/duty belt.

    tarheelcops.org/db4/00400/tarheelcops.org/_uimages/NCSHP.jpg

I don't want to post the actual picture because it's giant.

Does anyone know where I can get some of these? The Troopers I've talked to said they're told that they're special production made specifically for the NCSHP and they are issued them so they have no idea where to get them other than Supply.

I think you have the wrong link. That is NOT a pic of any mag pouch/cuff case combo.

I'd like to see this thing. From what you are describing, it does not sound too appealing to me, though... at least based on my training and experience. It sounds like it would be a bit bulky and stick out too much.

There was a thread over on Glocktalk about this. I seem to recall that those who had it thought that it was too bulky with the cuffs behind the magazines.

I found a big picture of a Trooper that showed his magazine pouch. From the outside it looks like a normal magazine pouch, but there is a set of handcuffs concealed behind the magazines. You can't tell there's a set of cuffs there unless you're right up on him and are looking down.

I didn't know there was a big market for those wishing to conceal handcuffs.

I don't know the reason behind why the NCSHP does it, I just was looking for an extra place to keep another set of cuffs. It looks like it frees up about 4 inches of space on a duty belt, too, which would help with some of the super skinny officers I've seen.

Oh, I can relate to wanting to free belt space. I have a 31" waist and carry a 1911 as a duty weapon (which really necessitates 3 mags for reloads), along with all my normal duty gear, concealed... meaning the front wasitline is usually kept clear of equipment.

I guess it MAY have its place, but I never see anything like that being all that popular. It requires more fine motor skills to manipulate things like that and when the $h1t hits the fan, it is those fine motor skills that go out the window first.

I hear that about the fine motor skills going to crap. The Trooper was giving us a presentation about an attack he was involved in around March 15 of this year where a guy he was transporting (but not under arrest) was in the front passenger seat and reached over and cut his face up a lot and during the ensuing fight, while buckled in, the Trooper managed to draw his weapon and fire. He said his FTO would routinely tell him, while driving down the Interstate, to draw his weapon and then reholster, and that this habit helped him when he needed it. He said a quote by Lieutenant Colonel Grossman has stuck with him since then: (in combat) "You don't rise to the occasion. You sink to the level of your training."

Sorry, I call BS on this one. If true, the FTO should be fired. There is a HUGE safety violation. And, FWIW, I am NOT speaking from my a$$. I have quite a bit of experience teaching tactics, firearms, mindset, etc. There is a very dangerous practice if it is true. That is how idiots shoot themselves in the leg (or shoot an innocent person). If I had the time, I would dig up the news articles and show you.

I've never been an FTO so I wouldn't know. The Trooper's name can be PMed if someone want it(Google returns a lot of hits for his attack) and he's in NCSHP Troop G. I was just recounting what he said last night.

Regardless, it is a stupid practice.

We tend train for shooting from (and deploying from) vehicles to engage targets on the range. But then again, no one that I have trained with has had to drive ourselves to the hospital after launching a round into our leg because we messed with our guns while driving down the road. And yes, THIS has happened and has had a link on here in the past.

    .

Safariland Model 72. Two mags, one pair of cuffs.

It is quite big though, sticks out about 5-6 inches from your waist.

Some guys on another forum say they like it. I think it would be too bulky though for my liking.
