    Duty Belt question

I currently wear a regular dress belt while i do my ride-alongs as a police volunteer. Sometimes I carry a radio but the problem is it feels as if the belt is snagged because of the radio's weight.

I'm looking into some leather basket weave duty belts but cannot decide on what to buy. Can anyone recommend a brand and model and will also not make me look like a street officer at first sight?

I'm an explorer, a volunteer in uniform, and I'm issued what is known by three names as an underbelt, a garrison belt, and a trouser belt. Basically, it is a 1.5" wide black basketweave belt with a silver rectangular buckle (like a police duty belt).

My issued garrison belt is made by Boston Leather. I also wear a Boston leather radio holder; they are both good products.

It isn't a duty belt but does hold up to the weight of a M/A-com radio (full size police radio), Maglite, and some other basic gear, without feeling like a duty belt would do much better.

Some other people in my post bought their duty belts for the looks, but economically, if you're not carrying a gun, and aren't issued a duty belt, the garrison belt does just fine, such as in my case. It is sturdy similarly to a duty belt, but a bit smaller and thinner.

Since your case is similar to mine, I would just recommend a garrison belt. Personally, I think it looks stupid to wear a duty belt if all you have is like a radio and a flashlight. That's where a garrison belt fits right in.

I am also an explorer. We have 2 belts we wear when in uniform. The dress belt and duty belt. The dress belt, in worn under the duty belt of course. Our department issues all Bianchi leather belts, and holsters. I find Bianchi really nice and durable. My belt with is 2 1/2 inches i believe. When i have my gear on, the belt is fine, meaning it doesnt drag, hang or cause any problems. Its a strong tuff belt. I carry 2 cuffs, gloves, radio holder( with radio) and a flashlight.

What are your duties as a police volunteer ? Are you to dress and resemble a police officer ? Are you sure you WANT to resemble a police officer ?

At least half of all explorers think that they will get more attention from people if they try to look more like a cop. Well, they will, because a scrawny teenager wearing the same gear as a cop just looks idiotic. Maybe it's because I am brawny and tall, a human giant, if you will, but I do just fine without a big duty belt and more cuffs than an officer... well, actually, I don't carry cuffs at all.

I have a garrison belt with a radio holder, rubber glove holder (haven't used) and a Maglite. I keep a knife in my pocket that I've used for utility things that I've needed.

If you're not a cop and you are carrying handcuffs and wearing a duty belt, you probably are a wannabe.
    I'd like to call myself a want-to-be. I'm not a cop.... yet.

Just get a tougher strong leather dress belt. I was in plain clothes for a couple of months while waiting for my paper work, and it did just fine with a radio on it.

It's not dressy, but very functional:

Integrity is doing the right thing even when people aren't looking.
