    FlashLights

I am looking for a small but bright flashlight to use on everyday patrol , traffic stops and what not

i keep hearing surefire is a good brand and a friend also mentioned Pelican LED 7060

my question is what is the best light for patrol that i can keep on my gun belt at all times -

would like to be able to see through tints(if possible) to make traffic stops a bit safer ,etc...

thanks for all input in advance

I LOVE my rechargeable Stinger. Had it for 3 years and it has taken a beating and keeps on ticking. Prob cost around $65 or so with a charger.

I'm an Inova fan. The T3 I have is about the perfect small patrol flashlight, IMHO.

I have the UltraStinger and it's a good bright light. The bulbs are a little fragile (2 bulbs a year).

If you have the money I would buy a Gladius. Check it out.

I've got a Gladius and really like it. I don't care for the fact that the endcap tends to be a little "finicky", but it is a good light.

I also have a few Surefires and I am perfectly happy with them, as well.

My Surefires and my Gladius have all taken tremendous abuse (tactical operations, day-to-day work, as well as overseas operations) and have served me very well.

    I currently use a $20 2-cell Maglite and a $10 2-AA Dorcy LED light.

Most officers I see use their Maglites more often than their expensive lights, probably due to the price of special batteries.

The most common light I've seen used is Surefire followed by Streamlight.

Is the Gladius rechargeable and if so is it NimH or Nicd?

I figure the switch would be the first thing to go wrong with it. How long have you had yours?

Some rechargeable options for the Gladius:

2x 3.0v rechargeable Lithium Ion 123 batteries (IIRC, will not run as long as primary/non-rechargeable 3v 123s)

2x 3.7v rechargeable Lithium Ion 123 batteries (YMMV! Some Gladius owners over at CPF have reported that this will work and that the Gladius can handle the 4.2v per battery hot off the charger, again YMMV!)

1x 3.7v rechargeable Lithium Ion battery:
17670 - this is what I'm using right now, fits inside without modification, run time good (haven't tested exact minutes), lower voltage WILL activate the Gladius' double-flash low voltage indicator (every 15 seconds)
18650 - this is what I'd like to use, would have to "bore out" the inside to fit this larger diameter battery (have to be careful, there are switch-related electronics hidden by the plastic inner sleeve), run time very good (higher mAh capacity), ditto on the low voltage double flash

you can do a search of "rechargeable Gladius" or similar over at candlepowerforums...

Don't remember the exact date but my oldest Gladius is a couple of years old...

I'm very happy with the LED LENSER - Hocus Focus

The flashlight is lightweight, very bright and doesn't cost too much. (for a po in germany only 30 Euro). Another good thing, is that the flashlight doesn't waste much energy.

Surefire 6P. I've had it for years. Solved the battery issue by upgrading to the LED head. I haven't put batteries in the thing since January. ;)

Is it much? :confused:Surefire or other flashlights costs here about $250 US. So the $60 US isn't much.

I own several Surefires. Each time I get one, they come out with something better. I like the LED's the best due to the reduced temp, whiter light, and extended runtime. I wouldn't trade 'em for anything else, but that's just my opinion.

Great customer service in case you break one, too.
