    Bullet Proof Vest

I am an explorer and would like to purchase a bullet proof vest.

What is the best place to get a low cost bullet proof vest?

I am looking for one just to wear to get used to, since I am an explorer not a police officer.
if you want to critize me then go right ahead.

But Thank You if you can help

I have never known a department to issue body armour to Explorers. If they want it, they can buy it.

Cost of armour is determined by many factors:
Threat level (size of bullet it is to stop)
    Concealability
Wearability (I didn't know how else to describe that)
    Etc.

You need to decide how much you want to invest in something you only want to wear to get used to. I have no idea what my armor cost; Uncle Sam paid for it. An officer from another agency paid cash out of pocket over the $600 his agency paid for his to get a better fit. Galls has Level II for $280, but I don't know how good it is, especially since it is the Galls brand. Also, make sure you get sized for your armour. What I saw was not listed in 3XL format, but I didn't look that hard, either.

A local police uniform shop may be able to help you with this area. Make sure that you, as a civilian, can own armour.
You're allowed to have a life, you know. I read it in a manual somewhere. - Eugene Matuzak - Timecop

Check galls. Get a level IIa. $230.

Explorers usually don't get paid much.;)

My department issued out vests when appropriate. Have you checked with the officers on the department to see if they could loan you an old one?

OK, I know what you meant but let me be the first to say THERE IS NO SUCH THING!

I HATE when people say "bullet proof". I've seen a dozen or more CHIEF OF POLICE on the news from various states and departments saying things like "the officer was only saved because he/she had their BULLET PROOF VEST on". I know it's semantics and all but THEY DON'T EXIST. The problem with people saying that is that some officers are stupid enough to start believing what they hear and that'll lead to your DEATH. They are Ballistic vests or bullet resistant vest or body armor but NOT proof!!

I've gotten quite used to wearing my vest actually.

This isn't what I wear, but there is this LawPro vest

It runs about $200 (less shipping and handling) from Quartermaster. It's the most affordable brand new vest I know of. I don't know of anyone who offers bullet resistant vests (brand new) for less than that; hence; is why I reccommend it to explorers who may be on budgetary constraints.
