I know it's semantics and all but THEY DON'T EXIST. The problem with people saying that is that some officers are stupid enough to start believing what they hear and that'll lead to your DEATH. They are Ballistic vests or bullet resistant vest or body armor but NOT proof!!
Now that you have so delicately and sensitively informed the rest of us as to what gets your fur all matted up. :p

But if it makes you feel better, I get the same way when some retarded yahoo on t.v. says "...the officer was on routine patrol..."

Well I guess our friend here isn't serious. I'm still going to go with the thinking that he only wants it to be cool and to show off to all his friends. Trust me I know things ;)

That's what I would do. Just because a vest is over 5 years old doesn't mean it isn't better than not wearing one, and most places have lots of expired, but really still functional, vests lying around.

Ya talk to your advisors. I'm sure they could finagle a vest for you either from other officers or maybe by rummaging around the precinct/locker rooms.

I'd kill for a 5 year old vest. Hell my vest is from 1987! It's a 3a, so that makes it about a 2, 2a now? But in all seriousness, it still works right?

I'd look in "Quartermaster Law Pro" for a good vest at a decent price. They ALL have to meet federal requirements and be certified, so don't let anyone tell you a $1000.00 vest is "better" than a $400.00 vest. It's probably lighter and more comfortable, but that's about it. I have an Extreme level 2 that I paid about $800.00 bucks for, and I hate it. The light material balls up, rolls up, and is really no better than the older style vest I had before.

Then when you get your next vest, get sized by a retailer that is trained. If you have one that is sized right you will get some what use to it.

I have to agree, $$$ does not equal quality (at least not always), but do make sure it fits before buying...nothing worse than a sore neck from the damn thing riding up...oh and summer's right around the corner too, so comfort is a factor...not nearly as big as safety, but big big big....I sweat like a pig in my IIIa during the summer...good to loose a few pounds but pure misery....

A properly fitted vest should not move at all. Send them back to be resized if you need to.

I have two current ones not counting the raid vest. (One open-sided and one with full side panels) All are very comfortable. ;)
