Ear piece/lapel mic (volume not loud enough)

What's happen guys. I have a question for those who wear the ear piece and lapel mic on their hand helds.

I have recently purchased a Motorola set up (part # RLN5312A). It is not very loud when I have the volume maxed out on the hand held. In the car and walking around with "normal" background noise, I can hear ok. However at events, bars, etc. I cannot hear the radio.

I'm also wearing the "skeleton" ear piece, not the ear bud.

I know I'm not the only officer who has experienced this. Has anyone ran into this problem and successfully overcame it? I'm on my second set up. I took the first one back for the same problem.

    Thanks!

Need a better description, do you have the clear plastic tube that goes from a small box to the ear piece?

That is correct. The clear plastic tube with the "skeleton" ear piece. One wire contains the clear plastic tube/ear piece and another wire which has the lapel mic are both inserted into an adapter that connects to the side of the hand held (same place your standard shoulder mic connects to) with a push to talk button on it.

Make sure there is no condensation in the tube. I've found that a tiny bit of water in there will severly dampen the audio.

It could always just be that when there's a lot of voices being heard in one ear, then a radio transmission comes, and you just get confused.

Be sure to check the connections. Generally with electronics, even if there's a piece of dirt on a contact, it can mess that stuff up.

Try not to laugh, but... have you tried it in the other ear, too? Maybe there's something wrong, like ear wax, mild hearing loss, etc.
