Why not the one made by Second Chance for your vest? Most of my class got theirs right from SC.

this one just seemed a bit better it was almost like a hard plate that it will resist a punch and a knife but will not deflect a round anywhere

    1) That defelct a round thing is ancient history. It was possible in the forst days of trauma plates when it was simply a piece of steel. Even then, try to find a case where it actually happened. It is police urban legend. Now, a hard plate is steel wrapped in ceramic. The ceramics and plate covering absorb enough of the energy and crack the plate so the it goes nowhere else.

    2) Since your NYPD, Second Chance will give you a heck of a deal. Especially since they just got another order for 30,000 vests. When I got mine, we were the first class to test a new vest years agao when they found teh PACA was letting rounds through. I got mine for $75 due to the recent 2,500 vest order. Give them a call and see what they can do. The size of teh pocket changes for each vest due to your personal size. They hooked me up with a hard large for the back panel, a medium large for the front, and a free small. They won't sell direct and will probably send you to a distributor (____________ Associates) in NJ who has small office....not a showroom as he sells to buff shops and stuff. He will take care of you. He is legit.

i picked up the impact plate the guy who got our vests sells. I think the company was impact but i may be wrong. I got the big plate and it came with a soft pad to put behind it. I wore it in the academy to see how it would be and it wasnt bad at all. It was 125 for the big plate.

The NYPD had problems with PACA. When 35+ vests let rounds through that were randomly tested, they immediately called Second Chance. Secodn Chance went out of the way and has provided a quality vest. The NYPD just recently worked with them and has designed a vest specifically for the NYPD. Level III, super thin, super light, extended coverage per NYPD specs and a special carrier for the NYPD.

    1) The trauma plates were never listed. It is a custom extra.

    2) Do what you wish. I like having recourse. When your IMPACT plate is teh wrong size for your vest, cracks, is damaged or gets wet or possibly even fails, try to find the company and get recourse! Seocnd Chance stands by their reputation and gives a decent price. I was involved in a water rescue and my vest got soaked. SC replced not only the vest, but teh trauma plates. Try to get IMPACT to do such.

    3) Stay away from Standard Law even if you go with the IMPACT! He is a high priced rip-off! He also does not stand behind the products. Our group in Impact ordered winter carriers from him. He said they were "original" Second Chance carriers made for our vests. Most failed and the stitching/fabirc ripped or teh velcor wore off in less than 1 winter. When we went back to him, he said "Sorry, 30 day warranty." We sent them back to Second Chance who told us they were factory seconds and no warranty! Go with Galls, Streichers, Second Chance, etc....
