    Duty Suspenders

As a patrolman in a fairly busy part of town I am always on the move and always complaining of back pain. My doc suggested duty suspenders.

I purchased Uncle Mikes Duty Suspenders(nylon). There were a few others before me that purchased them and now no longer wear them. My buddy wore them one night, he got into a foot chase and a fight and damn near lost his entire belt due to the break away feature on the suspenders. I too have pretty much stop wearing them because they are always coming unsnapped and are just a pain. Im curious if anyone else wears them and provide suggestions to improved wear without the straps flapping in the wind

you know i have always wondered about those things. i also have back pain with my belt and will on occasion go for about a month just plain clothes to give my back a break. i myself thought they looked kinda dorky, but thought that if they worked they would be well worth it. i know that i've recently seen in galls (ooooohh, the competition, hehe) some kind of a back brace thingy that slides onto the belt providing extra support without taking away any space for things.
I do what I can do when I can do it.

I haven't had back pain, but I have wandered what others thought. I know I have seen Pierce County S.O. (Wa) wearing them. I would like to hear more opinions on them.

We had it easy in the army.

You could basically hang all your stuff ON your flak jacket, so you'd have to be carrying a ridiculous amount of stuff before you even felt it.

I used to carry two canteens, a pr¡ck-77, and extra battery, Bino's, Rangefinders, night vision, starlight, maps and a .45 + 6 mags.
Plus one of these. Felt like wearing a heavy jacket.

Of course, I never really had to worry about wrestling with a guy.
We focused more on the shooting and blowing up aspects of public relations.

I notice a lot of washington state deputies wear the suspenders. Jason did they still wear their keepers with the suspenders on? your supposed to still that way the belt is still anchored to something and wont fall off.

The only Wash State Deputies that I have ever seen are on reruns of cops. I think they wore the suspenders because it looked like they wore flightsuit type unis...one piece zip up type deals. I dunno how I feel about that PR-wise...but I'm not a real PR type guy. I personally think that uni would be super comfortable and relatively good to move in...until you had to make a #2 head call, lol. But other than that, anyone else have any thoughts on a jumpsuit type uni?

i hurt my back during a fight with a baddy and ended up having to have major surgery to remove part of two discs and some of the vertebrae at L5-S1....

after all the rehab and physio that a person can bear without going stir crazy my doc suggested that i adjust the rigging of my belt to alter the weight of it.

i found that by adjusting the position of certain items....mags, oc, cuffs and radio it put less strain on my back and i wasnt getting as sore. it took a few weeks to get used to the different positions of things and thankfully i didnt accidently spray someone when i was going to do a name check.......lol

    hope this also helps...

I found these suspenders about 2 years ago and they worked so well, purchased them for the entire department. Small US based company and great to work with. One of my guys is 6'4" and they made custom set for him at no extra charge. SPAM REMOVED BY CITICOP.
