I have used the strobe feature during night time searches of houses, business, schools, and churches. It is very effective and still gives the user a great deal of light to see with.

Recently we caught a burglar in a home and after getting multiple units including K9 we called in through the open window to him. He came out and gave up, climbing out of the window. I used the strobe while covering him but I don't think it made much difference with him climbing out and being grabbed and cuffed on the ground.

During searches other officers have been curious and asked me to light them up with it. I have also asked to see the effects. Even with just a few seconds the effect is crazy. Your vision gets completely screwed up and the blinking turns into kind of a pulsing that you can't see through. It's nearly involuntary to slam your eyes shut. Even if you forced them open the pulsing effect of the light washes out all features of the environment and it is almost impossible to even tell where the source is.

I am completely confident that anyone who was armed would not get an aimed shot off with that strobe in their eyes. They might get some wild shots off but there is no way they could aim anything.

I've noticed at the 80-90 lumens that the Gladius comes in with it is slightly less bright than a streamlight. I wouldn't go with any less light personally.

I have no idea. We carry a polymer Streamlight that fits on our belt and a larger one you need a ring for. Both are rechargeable. The Gladius is just slightly less bright and washes out a little easier in ambient light. In dark however the bluish-white perfect sphere of light by the Gladius is so much higher quality. I see the ugly yellowish light of the Streamlight with dark spots and uneven lighting in it now and I can really tell the difference.
