    Cold/Winter Jackets (Patrol) Suggestions

Did a search, zippo relevant results.

FWIW, I recently changed departments (large urban to small rural). Needless to say, our uniform standards here are VERY relaxed, compared to the old hellhole.

Anywho, I can wear damn near any style jacket I like. So ... I was thinking about the Blauer 9910Z or the 9300Z. (Obviously, I'm referring to cold weather/winter jackets).

Comfort and accessiblity is a factor, of course, as is the "Fernando" factor ... ;)

Any others I should check out, boys and girls?

(no, I don't mean girls jackets .. I mean ... aww, hell ... if I gotta explain it ... forget it)

Well, I have a Blauer duty jacket, navy blue. I think its the 9626, or at least its very close to that model. I just rummaged my equipment reciepts but couldn't find it. Either way, its been a great jacket. I had the same model only in brown when I was a deputy. Its lightweight, has a zip out gore-tex liner, and has kept me warm down to 40 below plus.

Sorry, I don't have any coats left to check, but I'll tell you some of them are crap, so keep checking.

If I may recommend a hat? I got a Troopers fur tab hat, the ones that if you leave the ear muffs straight out you look like what people think an Iowa farmer looks like. But man, when the wind is howling down I-80 and you have numerous accidents, that's the best piece of equipment I had.

Maybe it doesn't get that cold for you.

I have a Flying Cross Gortex jacket with removeable liner. It's pretty warm. I usually put long johns under my uniform and without a jacket. Jackets too bulky.

Get one with a hood that zips in and out of the collar or rolls into the collar. I used to have one of those and it was really nice for those cold winter freezing rain and snow.

Not that anybody cares (nor does it really matter), but I decided on and picked up my new jacket today - the Blauer 9905Z with Crosstech fabric (GTX+PLUS).

They claim it's waterproof, breathable, windproof, blood & body fluid resistant, common chemical resistant and is NFPA 1999 Compliant (2003 Edition).

It's got the nice B.Warm zip out liner, adjustable wristbands, supports the use of front and back panels, and has various areas with reflective material.

And yes, Valor55, it has a removable hood that stows in the same pocket along the back that you keep your panels in ...

    Thanks for the input, everybody.

One of my advisors just bought a 5.11 jacket. It set him back about $300 (I think), but he was very happy with it.

I think this is the one: http://www.511tactical.com/outerwear..._1_Jacket.html

How are the jackets supposed to fit? I am entering the academy next week and the only jacket I can wear is the one approved by my department. I am trying to decide between a 2XL and 2XL Tall. Are they supposed to go past your duty belt or just above it? Thanks.

I tuck mine under my duty belt, allowing full access to the equipment on my belt.

Mine covers the duty belt but it has a small zipper on the side for my gun. Remember that you will have on body armor and maybe a sweater under the jacket, also a zip in lining. Mine are a bit loose fitted. Just make sure the sleeves don't come down over your hands.

Jacket? what's a jacket? It's 80 degrees down here today.

My thickest jacket is a "windbreaker" for when it drops to the 40's.

I don't know how you guys do it up north....
