Monadnock Autolock Q?

I've just bought a Monadnock Autolock 21" Model 9020. I made the decision on the basis of the push button closure. I find the friction lock really awkward if deployed and then you need to quickly hop back into the car or something. Plus striking them on the ground damages them.
The autolock however seems "rattly" and not as solid as the friction lock. Im wondering if anyone has any experience with them, and also, what maintenance is required as no guidlines are supplied with the baton.

It has a ball bearing locking system in it, and the Friction locks do not. Though I don't own one, I would imagine that the bearings and additional components that you don't have with a friction lock could cause some extra rattling.

I have both. I use a Winchester friction lock thoug. MUCH more sturdy than either listed above. However, I managed to break 2 of the autolocks. They don't always "lock" when there supposed to. A good example of this is smashing on someone who is on PCP. It's actually quite frightening to watch a baton collapse on a body strike! Now I use a Winchester. NO problems with this yet.

I use a Monadnock Autolock 21". It does have a lot of "play" in it and the barrels will roate when it's expanded (unlike a friction lock which locks tight, for obvious reasons). I have had problems with it in as much as it doesn't always lock when I rack it. If you don't need it RIGHT NOW it's always worth just giving it a little tug to make sure it's properly locked.

Whilst I havent yet deployed it "for real", I have noticed that a good chuck of the wrist is needed to lock it properly. As regards maintenance though, Monadnock's web site recommends a lubricant but does not say if the baton requires disassembly or whether a squirt on the joints will do the trick.
Manxman, have you ever used your autolock against car glass or anything?

Yes I have. Roughed the plastic tip up really bad so I had to get a new one (otherwise it might have cut an offender).

My force issues these batons to all its officer and personally I think its a pretty good baton. I have racked mine a few times but never had the need to strike with it yet, although while at the gym training in it I gave it a good pasting on the pads. The individiual shafts rotate to allow the officer to carry out a certain technique to get someone who has grabbed the baton let go. Never seen or heard off the winchester so cant comment on that, but I do also have an ASP which I personnally do not like. Can sometimes collapse when you strike and you cannnot do forward/backward jabs with it.

What holder do you use for this baton? I just got Bianchi Model 7313 open top Accumold holder and it doesnt grip the baton at all. The protruding rubber tip does mean it sits a little higher in the holder, than say an ASP with a flush metal tip, but I would loose the baton within minutes if I go out with this.
