It's about to be spring so I'm going to ask a question about sunglasses. Can you wear what you want or are there limits? I know it seems silly, but from a military back ground where there are limits on what you can wear on duty it makes sense. I'm pretty sure there are departmental standards, but I'm just trying to get some safe suggestions on what my options are. Also, are the ones that can deflect .22 rounds worth the extra $$ or are the Wally-World MIB knock-offs good enough? Thanks ya'll. :cool:

The ballistic shields are well worth it. There are more things flying around than bullets. Gravel from car tires for example. Rioters have used slingshots in the past. We have Wiley's issued. I'm unsure of the model.

I get cheapo Wal Mart specials. No heart burn when I lose them or they get crushed by a car. If the department issued them then that's different. I used to have Wileys. They were nice but I never thought they fit very well.

I had a couple pair of Oakleys. They are pretty decent. I really love my Rudy Projects! You get equal protection with a better selection... at least when speaking of the government contract. They run about the same price as a pair of Oakleys. I would say they are worth every penny!

Ours must just be "conservative" in color and design. I have Oakleys...5.0.
Plus, if anyone is a verified LEO or military, they offer a direct buy program with a huge discount. You can only buy a pair......so nobody can stock up their stores with them and they require proof.-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.

Rudy Project has a purchase program, making the prices about the same. Rudy doesn't limit the color or number of glasses that you can buy. I bought 5 pair last time I ordered (2 for me and a few for guys in the office)... all for LE use, to be shipped only to official address.

My department's post just uses cheep's and if one person has a really nice pair then we all play jokes on them but I guess thats normal when you are with a bunch of guys.

a little late here, but gargoyles used to be worn quite often, especially for the ballistic properties. i personally wear prescription ray bans (see my fish thread for pics of em) the only problem as mentioned earlier, is that i'll probably cry like a baby if i lose them or break them. they cost over 300!
I do what I can do when I can do it.
