I've been a Danner fan but I'm kind of disappointed with my Recon pair. As soon as snow came down they started to leak like crazy..Danner should be superior to all especially whey you pay over $200.

I wear $40.00 WalMart boots. They last 1.5 to 2 years. They are waterproof and look decent. My feet don't complain either.
I got my first pair of danner Vibrams' working here and I've had them for a year and a half and the are the best boots I've had yet.
I've tried the cheap boots and they've just worn out way too soon. I've had military boots and they also worn out in pretty quick.
I went old school and got some Altama combat boots. They worked great in the military, just need to get them resoled every year or so ($30.00) and they'll last forever. The only problem is you have to wear them everywhere for a couple of weeks to break them in.
I'm Hub McCann. I've fought in two World Wars and countless smaller ones on three continents. I led thousands of men into battle with everything from horses and swords to artillery and tanks. I've seen the headwaters of the Nile, and tribes of natives no white man had ever seen before. I've won and lost a dozen fortunes, killed many men and loved only one woman with a passion a flea like you could never begin to understand. That's who I am. Now, go home, boy!

I just got a pair of Bates M9 enforcer 8" side zipper. They are waterproof and insulated. They had great traction in the snow and ice recently.

Playoffs?? Playoffs!!??? Don't talk about PLAYOFFS!!!??
5.11 Tactical ATAC 8" size zips. Light and comfortable (spring/summer wear; NOT claimed to be waterproof, although winter has provided no reason to NOT like them yet).
Only time will tell if they are durable (recent purchase).
Danners are my overall favorites. My GSG9s are comfortable and super light, but they wear really quickly. The Oakleys are the best, as they tend to offer the comfort of the GSG9s with durability that more closely matches the Danners. I am looking to throw my 2nd resole onto my Danners. I have a new pair, just collecting dust because the old ones are just so comfy after all these years.![]()

I have a pair of cheap insulated Rocky's ( $105) but they have worked out well.

Do any of you use inserts? If so, I'd be interested in knowing what work well for arch support! I have tried every Dr. Scholl's brand that most places carry, and none work after the first 20 minutes! Just curious because I am tired of having sore feet!
Sorry for the thread Hi-jack!

On inserts, you get what you pay for, spend the extra and go to a Podiatrist and get fitted for an insert, you will not be sorry.
I belive Orthotics made a set for a co-worker that were custom and he really liked them. He said the cost was about $300.00 but it comes with lifetime adjustments and repairs.
They measure your foot and have you step on a mat to get a measurement of your arch and then a cad computer grinds out your arch support for each foot.
I wear, or cycle through, depending on the weather :

Altama swat boot
A full leather boot made be American Footwear (don't recall the name)
If it's REALLY hot I'll wear the New Balance USPS walking shoe.
AND if it's heavy rains, wet slush / snow, I have a pair of 14" Muck Chore boots which are totally waterproof.
