    Dodge Intrepid

Ok not sure if this is the proper place or not.

    Anyways here goes.

We have used Impala's and Crown Vic's in the past but decided to run a single Intrepid due to price and what not.

This car is a complete nightmare. Brakes constantly failing ( Ie pads and rotors being replaced ) and other various electrical stuff. <-------- I know the adjoining agency has purchased 3 and are in rotation and are having the same problems.

    Just fair warning . !!

We have an intrepid and I would agree 100%. Ours Intrepid has less than 30,000 miles on it. We've had it in SEVERAL times on brakes, tires, engine squealing, ignition sticking 5 times, and a ton of other problems. I've never driven such a lemon in my life. Uncle Sam needs to quit going with the lowest bid.

My 02 has had no problems. Now, our 04s have had 4 blown motors over that last 6 months. We have a fleet of about 30 Intreps ranging from 02-04s.

The INtrepid is now gone from the Chrysler arsenal, better things may be coming soon. And they seem to have "300" in them.

I am awaiting the 300 also.... But alas, LE is a business when it comes to Budget time, and honestly, what do you think your PD will do when faced with a $23k 250hp V6 vs a $28k V8?

    Something like that.

YEah. I have actually seen the Police decked out version of the Dodge Charger ( Dodge version of the 300C) that is supposed to hit showrooms later this year. I doubt that a lot of the agencies are going to go with these new Hemi powered cars, because for one; alot of agencies are happy with the Crown Vics, and another thing is fuel and maintenance costs. The V8 in the crown vics get more MPG than those new Hemis will ever get even with cylinder deactivation that they will have. Another thing is that Ford is also working on their own Police Interceptor with a 300 Horse V8 that will be specifically made for Law enforecement. But then again who ever thought that departments would use the under powered front whell drive Chevy Impala? You never know, but Im betting that a lot of Departments will continue use of the Police Interceptor that is made by Ford.

But then again thats just my 2 Cents.

Many agencies are switching from Ford due to the fuel tank problems. Several agancies have sued Ford, and in return Ford is refusing to sell to those agencies.

I would really hope that Ford would do the upgrade to the fuel takes that would stop the huge leak from a rear end hit.

What is a few 100.00 off the profit to put a fuel bladder in the tank? It's really too bad for these manufactures that they'll sacrafice safety in order to make more profits.

What would force Ford to do this is if LE Departments demand fire resistant fuel tanks and they'll be forced to do it on all models to cover their legal liability.

Could you imagine the suite ... You have fire resistant tanks on this model of car and why not on that model??

There is suppose to be a big article on this in the Chicago Tribune either today or tommorow.

The old department I was with has the intrepid, which I believe should not be a cop car.

On another note my SO is planning on switching over to the 300's

Ford will never pay to fix the Crown Vic gas tank problems, back in the day with the pinto ford decided that it would be cheaper to pay the families restitution than to fix the $11 part. In order to pay the families off it cost Ford $49.5 million whereas the fix would have cost $137 million, classic example of profit over people. But on a happier note my department who had intrepids had the engines blow out on so many of them that we switched to the impala, hopefully we get the badass charger next, but i have a feeling that they will go with what they can afford, unfortunately they give us an intrepid to drive to the acadamy with, hopefully I don't experiance these engine problems first hand! :D

Mabey they will supply you all with EVO's
That would help with trying to keep up with those hondas
I even took a few minutes with a Paintshop pro and a evo pic and made a cop car

I think I would rather be on a foot post. I would feel compelled to cite myself, or at least mock myself...
