I carry two pair. One S&W, the other Peerless. I don't like the doublelock on the Smith. I've used my Peerless alot and never had a problem with 'em.

Phoenix - Maricopa County deputies have started using fluorescent pink handcuffs to transport inmates. Sheriff Joe Arpaio said he introduced the pink handcuffs because he believes they'll be easier to spot and harder to lose than silver ones. Patrol deputies will still carry the traditional cuffs.

My dept. issued the S&W model 100 in both Nickle & Blue up to about 2 yrs ago and then suddenly changed to Hiatts 2010.(probably due to cost).I was issued the Hiatts but opted to puchase my own S&W's. They are far smoother than the Hiatts and I believe do not compare to the S&W for quality / finish etc. The only good feature on the Hiatts is the push pin double lock (but how often do you actually double lock?).
The Hiatts also seem to have sharper edges which I believe has resulted in at least one US police dept. withdrawing them from service due to cut wrist law suits. I cannot comment on the Peerless cause I have not used them.
I notice however that S&W quality seems to have slipped a bit. I have my original Model 100's for about a year. Flawless operation. Along with my black pair which I aquired recently. On a recent visit to the States I bought a few pairs of S&W 100's for collegues and noticed that some of them were very stiff on one side and smooth on the other. One even had a loose jaw which means it bounces back back when cuffing as it goes in crooked. These new ones can be told as they are now only stamped on one side with logos etc., and they come with S&W branded keys!
Phew, tired after all that
I love peerless hinged cuffs. I've used them for years with never a malfunction or a problem. I had a pair of Hiatts for about two months. The lock would stop working and my key wouldn't open them. After struggling for about 5 minutes to open them I finally got them off the guy and they went into the trash. Back to my trusty peerless.

I usually have three sets of cuffs on me, the first ones used are orange. How'd 'ya like to have to carry these?

Little gift my girlfriend bought me as a gag but they are hyatts so I may as well use em. Also reminds everyone back at the station of who made the arrest
Sheriff Joe likes pink. When the inmates were stealing the MCSO issued undershorts, he had the remaining stockpile dyed pink...
