The ONLY thing I don't like about the LaserMax is the switch. I wish it had a momentary pressure switch.
Samuel hit it right on the head, there is no pressure switch for momentary use. The way lasermax is set up, the laser is turned on by an anmidexterous switch that replaces the takedown lever. So, if you have only one hand on the gun, you will need to use the other hand to turn it off. This can be troublesome if your other hand is occupied.....flashlight, etc.
That is my ONLY complaint. I have a lasermax in my Beretta Vertec and love it. When they say 5 min. installation, they are not kidding. On your first try, it'll take 5 mins.....after that, if you ever take it out and put in back in or in a new gun, you're looking at 2 mins tops. The laser is a pulsating dot, as opposed to a constant dot, and I've found it easier for your eye to find it when it is pulsating. It it always in alignment and there is no need for special holsters since it simply replaces the spring guide rod.
I've never used it in a situation other than at the range, but have found it to be a useful tool there. After each shot, the laser will show you what your habits are in terms of wrist break, etc. The time it takes me to be back on target after each shot is much improved, because I had visual keys as to how for off target I was after each shot, and have corrected that.
A program aired on the Discovery Channel about 'less lethal' methods available to LE these days, and Lasermax was one of the segments. Included in that segment was an interview with an officer from Rochester Police Department (lasermax is HQ'd in Rochester) who stated that by simply turning on the laser when a suspect was at gunpoint very quickly moved the bad guy from a possible officer safety risk to a 'yes' suspect in no time. The suspect was very quick to comply with all commands once a small, bright red laser was pulsating on his chest. I guess he knew the officers were for real, and at least one would obviously not miss.
I bought mine on eBay for $250....nice compared to the $389 list price. My advice is to be patient and keep looking for a used one and you'll save a good chunk of change.
Hope I was of some help.......

leck, how do you like the Vertec? Have you used the rails yet?
Samuel-
I love the Vertec.....it is my third Beretta. First was a 96, then a 92, now I have the Vertec and it is the best of the bunch. The straight backstrap feels much more comfortable in my hand. Also, the safety/decocker lever is easier to reach. My understanding form talking to people is that the 'traditional' grip on the 90-series was kind of a pain for people with smaller hands when they were reaching their thumb for the safety. I personally know of one officer here in Rochester (92 Centurion issue) that carries his weapon with the safety off, because he's worried about not being able to reach it quickly enough in a jam. He's says that although it's dept. policy to carry with the safety on, he's more worried about getting shot than getting reprimanded from the brass. I'm sure Beretta heard this from many dept's that have Beretta issued, so I'm sure in an effort to keep those LE contract rolling in, they hit the drawing board. (sidebar- RPD is in the process of issuing Beretta Cougar .45 to all officers and taking back the 92's) I'm not sure if the grip on the vertec is actually thinner or not, but it feels like it. I still use my factory hi-cap mags which is always nice to have, and obviously the laser.
To date, I have not yet used the rails, but I do know that any lights made for a Glock will also fit the Vertec.....pretty good idea from Beretta if you ask me. I've recently been watching some bidding on eBay for a Streamlight M3, and I'm sure it wont be long until I pick one up.
I bought my Vertec on Gunbroker for only $400, plus shipping and transfer fees, so $440 total. What a deal.....it was purchased as a used gun, but I'm not convinced it was ever fired. There isn't even any of the wear on the barrel from the slide that is so common in 90 series guns. So, if you want one, just keep your eyes open on gunbroker and be patient....something will come along. Plus a laser from eBay for $250, so I'm doing pretty good so far with this one.
Lasermax is good stuff...but expensive. The pressure switch is the ONLY drawback. The fact that it sits completely with the housing of the weapon is also very attractive.
I could buy another gun for that much...
I'm just not a believe in laser sights on any weapon however.

leck, thanks for your review and the link!
warlock, one of the things I like about the laser is that, if I ever wear my glasses and get them knocked off, I won't be able to use the iron sights (yes my eyes are that bad) but I can still see the dot! And, as you mentioned, because it sits inside, there's no need to adjust/sight it. When you fire, you know the round is going just above the dot.
Yeah, there ARE pros and cons...
In addition to the glasses being knocked off scenario, I've used this laser in training situations where I can aim the weapon from unnatural positions and still be on target. Most notably, while using objects for cover and when hiding around a corner.
There are obviously pros and cons to EVERYTHING, but when the pros could save me from being shot, I pay close attention.
