Asp Cuffs

My buddy just got the first pair of ASP Handcuffs in the county. He has used them 2 times and said he just loves them. The key hole is a definate plus having it on both sides as with the double lock. The plastic he said would be better in the winter so you dant have to grab a cold pair of cuffs. He will let me know how they stand up to wear and tear.

Does anyone know if they are NIJ certified?

I have had mine for 2 weeks courtesy of the manufacturer trying to have our department issue them as standard equipment. We were not allowed to say anything until the public release on 6/20/04. They are very good but but the 2 hole thing is a issue they may change to one. When our department sent in our reviews, we explained our dislike of that for officer safety reasons. If a perp is properly cuffed, the key holes are always "up". Why? So the perp can't use a shim and try to pick it open. ASP's response was that that is the only complaint about the cuffs they have rec'd. I will say this...they need no breaking in.....they come like my S7W's whihc I have used for 3 years.......very smooth! Grab a pair folks...for $30 you can't go wrong on NIJ certified cuffs.

How thick is the metal covered by the plastic? Is it normal thickness (compared to Peerless or S&W)?

I saw a pair in galls. They look kind of weird but might be a great product. I am quite fond of peerless.

I got them the first day they were available. If I remember correctly it was the 21st. They are BEAUTIFULL!!!

I agree with Joeyd6. I am not as experienced in cuffing as you guys, but IF I mess up, and cuff backwards, there is always a hole I can get to.(I dont mess up as often as I used to. ) Then again, BIG officer safety issue.

I dont cuff any suspects. But we do for state competition.
