WHICH IS BETTER CHAIN OR HINGED ???
I don't carry hinged but I used a Deputy's pair one night and I actually had a hard time getting it on the squirming/fighting suspect. Seemed in that situation chained was better.
When the bad guy is carrying on, the hinger are harder to apply.
If the bad guy is compliant, they go on OK and then further limit his movement.
You decide which you would rather have.
Me, I'll stick with the chain. When they are kicking and fighting, I like to get them cuffed ASAP.

We use rigid, which is like hinged but without the hinge, once you have one cuff on you have total control over the suspect.
i actually carry one pair of each on duty. i prefer to use hinged on females or smaller framed subjects. its harder for them to flip them around the front. if you look at it from a ppct standpoint, hinged give you pretty damn good control over the subject. as mentioned however, they are harder to get on in certain situations. i think its all personal preference.
I do what I can do when I can do it.
I believe chain are really good. I have seen Rigid handcuffs online and countless times on the TV Show Airport where they film at Heathrow in England. I think rigid are a great idea except they have a big draw back , which looks like they are hard to get on a fighting subject. There are a pair avaliable on Ebay right now..
I am going to disagree with you, we used to use cuffs with chains and I believe they are harder to place on someone who is resisting. With rigid cuffs once you have one on you can hold onto the cuff and use the leverage which applies pressure to the wrist thus enabling you to gain control over your struggling subject.Originally Posted by Srebeiro
Okay,
I can see your point. I am not an LEO and I havent used the rigid handcuffs I would like to see us start implimenting them but you know us yank's. Heh. I like the way the UK runs their police force..they were the first to start using extremely high visibile jackets meaning the lime green stuff and I am seriously considering to purchase my own pair of rigid cuffs. They look real cool.
Yeh, go with what looks cool!
So we are beter than you Yanks in some things then, wow thanks you've really made my day ;)Originally Posted by Srebeiro

I have a raincoat that one side is a bright lime green, kind of reminds me of the UK cops I see on the TV. It is certainly highly visible though. They cost over $225 new, glad I didn't have to pay for it.

They like to us to wear flourescent when dealing with a road accident or in crowd situations so we can easily be picked out by CCTV if we get into trouble. Normally I wear a black fleece with police on the front and back.Originally Posted by Srebeiro
