Has Anyone Else Tried The Pepperball Paintball Gun, Or Whatever You Want To Call It?
It's a great tool to have. I would never consider it the end all, by any means though. Don't think that they are just a run-of-the-mill paintball gun, though. They hurt and they can be very effective. I like them best for crowd control and detention facilities.
There are several rounds available, to include OC rounds, markers (die) rounds, water rounds (for pain compliance or force-on-force training), glass-breaking rounds and inert training rounds (filled with scented powder).

I haven't seen one first hand but the guns look a WHOLE lot like a tipmann paintball marker. If you've ever been hit by a paintball at close range you know very well that they can hurt like crazy too.
Trust me when I say that these hurt A LOT MORE than paintball!

The ones we use ARE your everyday run of the mill Tippmann paintball guns - only we paid far more than they're worth!
They hurt more than normal because the "skin" on the pepper balls is thicker than normal paintballs and the guns are set at a higher muzzle velocity (around 400 fps IIRC).
I concur with SB on his assessment of the pepperball gun's effectiveness.
Te key to the PepperBalls are they are constructed out of rigid plastic. They old their shape, making them much more accurate (and painful). I believe that the higher velocity is achieved by reworking some of the internals of the weapon, such as making some of the valves and airlines larger and more robust.

Used them in the jail. They worked great when you had to deal with more than one combatant. You could take down several before you even walked into the cell or past the door in a day room.
How come your house has wheels and your car doesn't?
they suck! we have 3 that no one will carry. we lost interest when we took them out to train on them. we shot each other with them and had more fun than we should have. i think they'd only be good for pissing someone off rather than having any sort of ill effect on them. we took repeated shots to the chest.
it's not bad enough that some turd would laugh at me for pulling out what is essentially a paintball gun, but then get an even bigger laugh when they realize it has little effect.
it is nothing more than a paintball gun. i've been hit by paintball guns that hurt worse than the ones we have. and they paid a couple hundred for each one.
if you are looking for non-lethal, look for the rubber bullets for shotgun rounds. they're pretty accurate with the finned versions and the turd you're shooting doesn't know if it's real or not.

Unless ou are wearing armor, the training rounds would hurt very badly and then compound that with OC for the real rounds.... I DON'T THINK SO.

LOL @ hitnrun. Believe me, I know what you are saying. My wife thinks I am insane when I go out for my Thai food. Something about sweating and having your nose run that makes the chicken and basil leaves taste better.
...and one more thing. Calling a pepperball gun "nothing more than a paintball gun" really demonstrates one's knowledge of the subject. It's right along the lines of explaining to someone that a .22lr and a .22mag are the same thing. (an inside tip: THEY ARE NOT THE SAME)

Not to contradict you too much Switch but I'm SURE I can get a tipmann to well over 400 fps given a few hours a few tools and some compressed air (who uses CO2 anymore). I did a lot of my own work on my markers when I was playing (and no I didn't blow myself up). I do think that you're right that between a thicker shell and a higher velocity you'll get more pain. I've been shot from 5 feet away with semi-frozen paint at 250fps and the hurt like crap, I'll pass on anything higher than that, thanks.
I have to believe Switchback. I was at the hospital visiting a fellow MOS whose father was admitted and found a room with a neighboring agency guarding it. After inquiring I was told the officer was shot 4x at close range during a exercise by a Pepper Ball Gun and had 2 broken ribs and had to be "severely deconed" and was being held for observation for a night...... The guy had no reason to lie to me. I have never seen one or used one...but after this I would like to see it in action.
faulty weapons, i'd think out of the three, one of them would be good so argument one down.Originally Posted by Switchback

we shot each other several times. it leaves welps, but nothing more than the average paintball gun. the training rounds are the same thing, but full of talcum powder. so yes, I THINK SO! you can turn the pressure up on a paintball gun and it hurts like hell. i've never seen a serious injury from one, even turned up to high pressures. i've used paintball guns in cold weather. that hurts like a mofo because the cold weather keeps the paintball from busting. even then, all it did was leave a welp.
either you have a lack of experience in A: paintball guns or B: pepperball guns.
You're probably right.... it's not like I am a instructor in the pepper ball guns or anything.... wait a minute, I AM! I T&Eed them for our Special Operations Group. They fill a nice nitch with all the other less lethal we have.
We use paintballs and sims extensively for our force on force training too... but I imagine that I woudl still be far less knowledgeable in these (in regards to you) apparently. Sorry.
Now, shall we go into discussions in the differnces in the physics of a ball that flexes uponn impact (paintball) and that of a rigid one (pepperball)?
Also, jsut FYI, the pepperball gun is not designed to fire one shot to stop a person. The prescribed technique is 3-4 shots. By the time the 3rd or 4th shot hits you, you are feeling the full effects of the impacts... then the pepper kicks in. Of course you already know this too.
:D
