(911 dispatch
I just was informed I qualify for testing for a 911 dispatch
position.
I am wondering was I picked just because I applied? I
found the position on my cities web site and thought it
was right up my alley. I have over 25 years as a super-
visor at a major airline, have had to make instant calls
and was on the emergency response team.
I deal well with stress and think I would do well in this
type of position.
I am however 46 years old.
I ran right out to the bookstore and got a copy of the
911 operators exam which I blew through no problems.
I am looking for advise at this point and also clarification
as to if this is an actual job opening or just a pool to
identify future candidates? The web site said applications
must be received by April 15th.
I have never applied for a government job before so am
not so sure on the process.
Does everyone who applies get the opportunity to take
the written exam?
Or did my qualifications meet the job?

A lot of those questions are probably agency specific.
I can guess that if the agency "invites" people to test based on a certain criteria, then that's how you qualified.
911 call-taking is the kind of job where good judgement is important, so life experience is invaluable.
