Yep, that's the thing, they never changed much with the performance. Most normal V6's these days put out close to, if not more, horsepower than the 4.6L. I swear Ford only cares about the Mustang and nothing else. That new Taurus police package is a joke. You can have: 1. A V6 FWD which has already been shown by both Chevy and Dodge that it does not work, or 2. An AWD twin turbo V6. Twin turbo sounds good when making the sale but in practicality it's not going to work. I'm not going to pick on them as much for the AWD aspect, I see why they did that but I feel all of these added moving parts are one more thing to break, especially when being abused the way they will be.

It's a good, quick car. A municipal cruiser is an ABSOLUTE no-no, but generally, state cruisers are very well maintained. NO amount of maintenance can recoup the BEATING that patrol cars get.At least up here in CT. For $1800, I got a car that had 114k, & more life left than a $3000 beat to crap VW. If you buy a former CSP cruiser, you are buying a nice car. Not some run down vomit comet that was run endlessly by three different shifts. You are buying a car that someone cleaned up to sell off. Whether CT State Police , CHP , Texas DPS etc, we ALL haul drunks and idiots that have pissed and puked in the back of our cars. If you believe otherwise....

A CV will go 400,000mi. They have; and with only routine maintenance. I want to see the Caprice do that.

In my 25 years as a police officer , I have never seen ANY cruiser go 400K. Not unless it is on it's 3rd engine and 4th transmission.

(And it's pretty pathetic that they needed a 350 to outdo a little 4.6...)
Whats pathetic is that They make 6 cylinders that put out more power than a Crown Vic.

The CV is a good basic patrol car. It was never powered for any bottom end or mid range speed. Until I drove the 6.0 Caprice the other day , the mid 90's LT-1 caprice was my hands down favorite car. It had good bottem end , mid range and top end speed and was quite reliable.

I know this because I was there and drove these cars. By the time you were born , I had been a cop for 6 years.
