    PPV Tahoe

I'm considering purchasing a PPV Tahoe from a local dealer. I work for a big city PD so it's not for take home purposes, I just like the ruggedness of the PPV Tahoe and I plan to use it for some EJ's.

With that said they are listed for 34k at the dealer, that's only marginally cheaper than a base Tahoe with a few amenities. Does anyone have clue what dealerships are letting these go for? I figure I should be able to haggle, but being that it's a fleet vehicle I'm not sure how much I can shave off.

    Any insight is appreciated.

Edmunds.com will give you the invoice price so you know what the dealer paid. The salesman will probably get 40% of the net profit so that should give you an idea of what he needs to get out of it. As an old car salesman, I'd recommend a couple of things. One, don't have a trade in, sell it yourself. You'll get more money for it and dealers will give you a great deal on what you're buying and screw you on the trade in. Secondly, go to the dealer just before closing and take your time. At some point, you will be keeping the salesman, his manager and possibly the finance manager waiting for you to make up your mind. They will be more willing after a while to give you a better deal so they can go home.

I have been in the back offices of most of our local dealers and they REALLY DO have an end of the month car quota / contest. Take advantage of this.

True, but it's rare that the salesman has final say on the price. He still has to clear it with his sales manager. It's the latter you want to inconvenience.

That being said, I avoid dealers that advertise the salesmen are on salary. They have more pressure to sell than one on commission. It doesn't mean you'll necessarily get a better deal, they're just more obnoxious to work with.

Forgot to say thanks for the advice. With the economy the way it is I may just run my old truck until it's dead.

On the other hand, if you're not concerned about being laid off, this would be a good time. The economy is hitting the car dealers too and you could get a pretty good price and credit terms.
